Thanks for that to everyone that responded. I have elected to keep my babystay for the time being and have cut the headlining moulding to gain access to the underside of the deck moulding so that I can fit a backing plate, this will be tied to the deck by re-fastening the forehatch through the outer ends using coach-screws instead of self-tapping screws and by the babystay's U-bolt itself. I do not think that the side decks and coachroof are sufficiently strong to withstand tensions imposed by aft lowers and wouldn't recommend fitting of aft lowers in the first instance. I would rely on more backstay tension to imposed a degree of mast pre-bend to prevent panting.
