Mary
We live on Oxford and sail out of Wareham (Poole Harbour) Most Autumns we sail round to London, drop the mast, and motor up to Oxford where we pull ALKANET (501) out of the river and park her behind the house. (Where she is now) In the spring we reverse the procedure.
We have used South Dock for mast stepping and unstepping where they have a massive crane for the job. We also use St Katherines where we have always found a friendly bargee or the crew of a square rigger to do it for the price of a drink. Very friendly and easier to get to if you are leaving the boat at all and not as expensive as I had imagined.
3 - 4 days Oxford to St Katherines.
Watch for plastic and rubbish in the tidal thames - bitter experience of a plastic bag around the prop!
A great trip and no shortage of volunteer crew for the London bit.
Regards
Poul
