the best way to find engine options is to look at boats for sale.

I knew of a 500 with a volvo 2002 in it, but the older volvos were taller.

I don't know how the T28 and the T500 compare for engine space but I'd have a gut feeling that if anything it was tighter on the 28.

The Yanmar should still be ok though as there is space above the yanmar in the 500.

personally I'd still view 18/20 HP as a bit over engined and would have thought around 13HP to be ideal but in terms of engine longevity I'm sure any of them would see you out so it's not really an issue.

Prop size sounds like it's as much an issue as on the 500 hull where a 12" is about it. This is another consideration in terms of engine size.
