Much Ado's seacocks were all seized in the open position when I bought her. I used a similar method to what Nick is suggesting with great success.

I'd recommend using the correct Blakes seacock grease which is available through chandlers, it's a thick black grease with a consistancy like treacle, it worked much better than waterproof grease.

I always turn the seacocks off whilst not in use, I insist all heads and galley users close them after use, this keeps them free and easy to use.
