Brian, I know that your rant was not directly aimed at myself, so no offense taken. I also have done many miles across various bits of water using various formats of navigation tools and like most people find the use of the GPS makes life a whole easier. (In some ways).
My favourite GPS is my Magellen 5000 hand held. Yes it only uses 3 satalites, uses 6 AA bats in 4 hours, so must be plumbed into the boat. It can drive my Laptop nav package (RYA and Home office one) but the real nice thing is its simplicity. yes it has a huge keypad. only 25 waypoints but its has 1 button 1 function. No scrolling round silly little menus with a total of 4 buttons. I recon that GPS are programmed by computer buffs not yachtsmen, "ooooh we could also have this feature and ----well --- we will put it on that page becouse that one has less sub menus. Why are we going to do it????? cos we can !!!! neve mind that no one will ever really use it, it makes us look good.
This I think is why people are scarred of change. this site is clunky, I personally dont have any problems, Its straight forward to use, and people have got used to it. For my 2 penny worth I Have no problem with a newer format or changing but---- PLEASE where ever we go to----- lets try and keep it simple and straight forward.
PS I dont have broad band here yet. They have only just got enough people to sign up before they brought it out to the sticks and I had no problem with the test forum
PPS on a more interesting note just spent a few days on boat and decided its still very cold at night
Regards
Kim
