Had a similar problem with my T28, all I did was pick up a second hand "reefing boom claw", slide it onto the boom and attach the mainsheet to that instead. Means that the mainsheet is now "vertical" rather than running at an obscene angle across the cockpit, but that works better for me.

P.S. I have slab reefing but this was cheaper and easier (and more reliable) than trying to attach a new fitting to the underside of the boom !
