Neil, What you intend to do should do the trick. The T500 manual(available on this website)shows an exploded view of the sheet winches.Use Lewmar grease, and watch you don't lose the springs. Spares kits are avilable from chandlers.

Nicolas,I fitted a reefing winch on the stbd side of the coachroof and jammers on both sides on Eun Mara (T500 with 501 interior).There is a removeable cover inside the cabin on both sides for access to the underside of the rear of the coachroof for this purpose. There is a flat on the coachroof moulding to allow a winch to be fitted on the stbd side.
