I use an Autohelm 1000 on my T28 all the time. It handles the boat fine under all the sailing conditions I've encountered over the last 5 years. It was terrible when I first got the boat, but some judicious remounting by moving the mounting position further away from the rudder post and adjusting the "gain" in the software solved all that, since then it's been great. If it was only just a little bit more reliable ......

I've got to believe that a T28 is a little more "skittish" than a 500/501 so if it works on a T28, I can only imgaine it's a unit set-up or sail configuration problem that would make it no good on a 500/501 ?

Regarding roller/slab reefing, I changed Blazer to slab about 3 years ago and never looked back. I have a single line reef system led back to the cockpit and can put in a reef in less than 30 secs from the comparative safety of the cockpit. I bolted my turning blocks to the boom (with clinch nuts) and rivited the turning blocks to the mast, self-tappers didn't seem strong enough to me ....

Regards, Brian ("Blazer" 1970 T28)
