Hi Gary,

The procedure for setting up the compass on autohelms consists of going round in slow regular fixed-speed circles while the autopilot looks at the rate of change of heading as given by the compass. From the figures and associated rate of change it sees, it can imply the compass deviation that is being caused by the boat and so produces it's own internal deviation table. I wouldn't have expected the symptoms you describe to be caused by a lack of calibration of the autopilot but I may be wrong.

As it happens my original ST1000 did the same sort of thing as your "hybrid", it was caused by a faulty compass unit (broken/corroded wire on the compass coil). A quick bit of soldering sorted it out.

I have manuals for the AH3000, the AH1000, the ST1000, and the ST1000+ but not the ST2000 range so unfortunately I can't help you out .....

Good Luck !

P.S. I finally sold my broken AH2000 to a guy who's planning on building his own autopilot using my ram (which worked fine).
