Ok, I think there's a fundamental issue right at the heart of the university circuit thats been alluded to loads of times, but never debated in itself.

The question is:

Is it fair for someone to enter the minimum level allowed even though they are fairly sure to win?

I would like to kick off with a very strong YES to this question. If someone's a beginner, and has only just started competing in ballroom and latin then no matter how talented, how dedicated, etc. they should still be allowed to enter beginners. I know Cambridge didn't enter Scott last year, but I feel thats silly. In the same way I felt that Sarah S from Oxford not dancing beginners was also a mistake. They were *clearly* the best beginners (in latin abd ballroom respectively) on the circuit. Now if the beginners category isn't designed to find out just that, then exactly what *is* it for?

So don't be put off by the whingers who think that talent is 'unfair', or who claim that anyone any good should be forced to dance up so they no longer dance against their peers and display the talent which they truly have.

Comments?
