In reply to: John 's message, "Hate Crime Laws" on 10:32:11 06/10/03 Tue

I have ot say this. I have not been reading ayone's posts except Kiwi's. So I might be repeating wut people say.

John, I want to welcome you to crzy house and respond to the points in your post. This is nothing personal or against you, just a response to the issues that you brought up.

1.They are unfair and violate the 14th amendment of the Costitution, which guarantees equal protection under the law.

If you can, please do explain yourself. Because from what I know about HCL, it is not against certain group of people. What i Meant is, the law would not say, crime committed against another person based on them being homosexual is hate crime. It would be crime committed against naother based based on their sexual orientation. Which includeds all kind of sexual orienation, gay, str8, bi, you love dog, you love cat. When a group of queers attack this big football player because he is str8, that is still hate crimes. For example, Texas Hate Crime Law (James Byrd Law) stated any crime based on Bias is a hate crime.

2.They accomplish very little in the punishing or deterring of criminal actions, just as the death penalty doesn't deter homicides in the states that have a death penalty.

Darling, im sorry, but that is not logical argument. First of all, you can't really compare the 2. Every law has different impact. When there is no law exist, you can't compare the stats.

3.They are designed to punish thoughts more so than actions,

You can't punish thoughts. When a person is thinking about killing gay people, they can't get convicted under any law. If that argument is valid, then there won't be a harsher punishment for premeditated murder.

4.They single out groups of people, especially the gay community, and put them in the limelight for the anti-gay bigots and homophobes to use as targets of their hatred once again.

Same as the counterpoint as to #1. It does not single out a groups of people. It singles out a categlory that everybody belongs in. Everybody has to have a sexaual orinetation, everybody has a race, but it doesn't neccessary single out a group of people. Media single out a group of a people and creat the illusion. But it also does help to spread HCL and make people aware of it as well. No matter what law is pass, there will be people critiizin it.

the end...anyone feel free to counter me...=)
