Echo Malone, Miss City of Inglewood posted this on her blog. Sad that this whole experience was allowed to turn into this?

Having been there, done that and been stabbed in the back by other EDs when I went through...not that it happens to everyone but I love how she is honest about how they make you change platforms, talent, etc. She wrote a great honest article. While not everyone's experience, it was hers.

[> Subject: I have mixed feelings about this. I'm sad that she felt her ED was horrible. I can understand. But Echoe was simply not competitive. Regardless of her self-promoting website and self-described excellence, it was clear from the beginning that she just was not up to the level if many other contestants. Are there valid claims in this? Yes. But I can't help wondering if there is also some over-confidence in play.

[> [> Subject: I don't think Echoe's point had much, if anything, to do, with how competitive she was. She specifically mentions being fully supportive of Crystal's win. Her point was that her ED didn't support her personal choices in talent, platform and wardrobe, didn't fulfill her financial obligations, and encouraged her to isolate herself from other contestants. As for her competitiveness, see inside...

I do happen to think Echoe was competitive. DC contestants typically get excellent interview training because the DC director (herself a former CA titleholder) has great connections and has people in gov't and academics come in and teach her contestants about current events and communication techniques. I think Echoe is beautiful, was terrific in swimsuit and gown and very personable. As for talent, Echoe's monologue for me was an example of real acting. Monologue talents are highly underrated for their difficulty; a lot of acting we're used to seeing on stage or in movies is reacting to other actors. With a monologue, you don't have anyone else on stage with you. You have to set the scene and the context in a very limited amount of time, and if there is another actor in the scene, you have to act as if they are there, much like what professionals do in special effects movies when they act in front of a green screen. Having not seen interviews, I can't say with any certainty, but Echoe was definitely on my list as a top 15 contender.

[> Subject: This girl is not saying anything most in the MCO don't already know. Shame on the MCO for allowing this director and others to remain in place. As more and more girls age out, expect to see more come forward with their stories. It won't be pretty.

[> Subject: Bob allowed this girl to be abused by her ED. He knew she wasn't laying her franchise fees and did nothing about it and allowed it freely. I'm sick of the inconsistencies in MCO! Why do you RD's allow this? Would you like to keep some monies for yourself and not pay your fees? Insist on having the same privilege Inglewood had!

Blessings to you Echo. You were loved by our girl. We were told by the hostesses backstage you were a gem and a lovely young woman! Best of luck to you! You'll be ok.

[> Subject: I have such mixed feelings about this, on one hand, I know a few ED's who are concerned only with winning and they're sure they know exactly how to mold a contestant to be the winner, mind you not one Miss CA ED has been Miss CA but I digress, they are so caught up in winning and having a Miss CA they don't care who they hurt to do it. They shove their wishes down the girls throats, refuse to purchase gowns they don't like or pay for rehearsal space for talents they want changed, they change paperwork and submit headshots without giving the girls any choice. In other words they try to make the contestant into who they want and not necessarily who they really are or who they want to be. cont.....

[> [> Subject: Now on the other hand there are contestants who are ungrateful brats, (I'm not saying Echo is, I don't know her) they demand expensive gowns, shoes, swimwear or whatever and badmouth you when you can't provide it. They refuse appearances and don't show up for meetings and rehearsals and tell everyone you don't provide them with any prep. I think there needs to be more accountability on both sides, ED's that are consistently complained about or are known to cause problems should not have their franchises renewed, there should be madatory training for ED's and a requirement that they have experience on a committee before becoming an ED. Contestants should also be held to their contract and realize they have a job to do and that part of that job is fundraising and marketing the program they represent. In the end I think we need to keep it all in perspective, we love this hobby of ours, we must or we'd never put up with all this nonsense but at the end of the day it is just a pageant.

[> [> [> Subject: Fountain Valley, Victor Valley, and Keisha are all directors I would be fine with seeing gone. I like the idea that FV and VV have pageants, but the ladies at the helm of each are horrid to their girls, turn their backs on them, don't fulfill obligations, and are NOT held accountable. It's quite sad.

[> [> [> [> Subject: I think we should all refuse to pay franchise fees and ask for special considerations like these other ED's do. Or if you don't want to act as low as these other directors then at least tell Bob we expect the same standards to be enforced. FV needs to support her girl so other directors don't have to keep covering her a** in the name of caring for FV's girl. Where are the field directors when all this abuse toward the girls is being done? Why aren't they monitoring these crazy directors? Why do they allow inconsistencies in their area? Is Keisha truly gone?
