| Subject: Bob's reaction to the Tiffany situation was to stop announcing swimsuit winners until after the pageant was over. So from '96 until the early 2000's, when PPA started funding prelim evening wear winners, only talent winners were announced at the end of each prelim night. (more inside) | |

's message, "Ok maybe I'm dense but if Tiffany won two prelims and the Fresno Bee assumed she would win, why is Bob to blame for any of this?" on 06:45:40 11/09/13 Sat A lot of people missed the excitement of a second prelim winner being announced, and from a contestant perspective, winning swimsuit and not knowing it the night you win probably deprives that girl of a little extra motivation and confidence. I think today's contestants seem to have a better understanding about prelim wins, and most don't read as much into them as they used to. My attitude is the more the merrier - announce prelim winners in all five categories, that's 20 winners for the week. The odds of someone being a quintuple prelim winner are pretty remote, and even if it happens, it only means that she's the best overall in her group. With four groups now instead of 2 back in '95, the honor is a little more "watered down" than before. WIth a strong judging panel you would probably see the awards pretty well dispersed among lots of girls. Or, you could just announce talent, swimsuit, evening wear on stage, and save the interview and on-stage question winners for Saturday's show, after the semi-finalists are announced. | [> [> [> [> [> Subject: The reason the announcement wasn't made on stage this year is because the show was running long and Cassie decided to eliminate a couple of award announcements to speed things up (so we could get out of the theater on time). It happened very fast and Bob couldn't stop her in time, so the awards were skipped. Why did it take so long to announce them? I can't answer that except that immediately after the pageant ends, Miss America prep begins and paying all the pageant bills has to be handled. I don't think it means Bob is "losing it." | |
