I agree with most of your point, but this is so typical.

You know my dad was once working in the garden when a crackhead appeared on the other side of the fence (not much of a fence, I once kicked my own way through it). What did he do? He hissed, and the crackhead went away. As he puts it himself "Who knows what would have happened if I had a gun". Or the crackhead, for that matter. It's so hard to get a gun in this country that most crackheads don't, but if they were legal, the crackhead might've stolen one from a house or something.

Also, an obvious point is; burglars come into your house to steal, not to kill.

Gwydion pointed out I'm mentally disfunctional because I believe everyone would shoot me if guns were legal, but that's just it; I don't believe everyone shoots everyone. I believe a robber won't just kill you, he breaks into your house without any intent to kill and won't do so unless he feels treathened (with, perhaps, a gun).

With complete absence of guns in petty crime and with home-owners, most Dutchies simply do not have to fear for their lives, ever. And that's the central point, innit, fear? We don't have it, so we don't need guns.
