Subject: This is my Boomstick -

I’ve read a lot of what you guys have been posting about guns. Ownership, responsibility, risk, respect, causal relationships, la de da da dee.

Lots of emotional posting with a few facts, some good ideas, some bad. Let’s break it down without the bullshit boys.

Guns are made to efficiently kill things. Guns have other uses besides killing things.

Guns are not capable of knowing right from wrong.

Guns are not going away, until we invent a better more efficient killing machine.

Guns are not evil, they are just simple machines. Guns save lives and take lives.

What makes guns useful and necessary is the same thing that makes them dangerous and ugly. What is that thing?

Man.

Man is a predator. History (especially current history) has proven over and over again that the strong will prey on the weak. Kosova, Somalia, the Ivory Coast, Iraq all attest to this simple fact.

Guns afford the weak the opportunity to defend life, limb, and property. From people with guns who would violate those basic rights.

Man is the deciding factor in whether a gun is used properly, safely, and legally with good intent. Man is equally responsible for the misuse of firearms.

Guns are not the bogeyman, we are that monster.

So it behooves us to teach ourselves, our friends and family the proper respect and use of these weapons. We should all teach our children what life and death means, what taking a life means - and teach them the means to defend themselves from predators.

Not teaching our children gun safety is the same as not teaching them to look both ways before crossing a street, or to stay away from strangers. It is negligence.

Not being prepared to defend your family from predators is negligent as well. Kharn, I suggest that if you saw a man stabbing your mother, you would wish for a gun to defend her life, would you not?

Not all killing is bad.

Hunting is killing with a purpose. Animals taste good. You must kill them to eat them. It’s good for the animal population, it’s good practice for hunting humans, and you get exercise, food, skins, and horns. It’s an excellent sport when sportsmen abide by the hunters code.

Human predators require killing too. Sometimes we have no choice but to inflict harm to stop bad things.

Target shooting, speed competition shooting, collecting, military re-enactments, self-defense training all involves guns that do not kill things.

Guns that are used in self-defense are usually never fired when stopping a crime. FBI crime lab statistical fact - “guns are used several million times a year in the U.S. to deter crime without being fired.” - look it up.

Guns as a deterrent do not have to kill people. That’s why cops wear them and rarely use them in the line of duty. That’s why I have one under my drivers seat in the truck and one in my night stand, and under the bed, and in the trunk of the car.

Tone, I suggest you lock up your guns at least in a closet or a trunk. I would keep the ammo locked separately. Walmart sells a small, narrow gun safe for $99.00 that holds 9 rifles and 3 handguns. Not only to keep your guns safe from your children, but from neighbors kids and thieves. Not deterring theft is negligent gun ownership.

Finally, banning legal guns and stopping lawful citizens from defending themselves does not lower gun crime. Locking up criminals who use guns in a crime lowers gun crimes.

Now fuck off.
