Subject: What drove me away
In reply to: Bob J. 's message, "D & M on the ropes at 'YSP" on 16:05:18 04/22/03 Tue

A few things drove me away from D&M a while ago, even as I continue to listen to Stern, and would probably listen at O&A should they ever return. They are:
1)Their abrupt change from basically good natured jokesters to super edgy, obnoxious,"shock jocks"immediately after O&A left the air.It was kind of like when Vanilla Ice went "gangster rap".
2)A seeming absence of actual comedic talent. These guys, like Stern and O&A are basically smart-ass disc jockeys, not actual comedians or comedy writers they need someone on and/or off the air to provide them with true comic material and on air genuine comedy such as provided by Stern's Artie Lang/Fred Norris(and formerly Jackie Martling) and O&A's Jim Norton. True comedic presence is much too infrequent on the D&M show.
3)If you're not allowed to curse, then don't.using the first letter in place of a curse word is ok once in a while, but D&M do it so often it sounds really weak.O&A were guilty of this as well, but this tended to be balanced out by the rest of the package.

[> [> D&M are exactly the guys I though O&A were gonna be before I gave them listen. I thought O&A was just going to be one of those always unfunny radio teams that you hear all over the country, but I was wrong - O&A were TRULY FUNNY...particularly Anthony and when Norton was on. Something Stern isn't anymore and D&M never ever were. I tried to give D&M a shot but they just are NOT FUNNY at all. -- Tector Gorch, 17:34:41 04/24/03 Thu

[> [> [> All I hear when I tune in D&M is two guys trying to - gasp - entertain! Well, we can't have that, now can we? Don't they realize that talk radio is about being a self-important blowhard, ranting endlessly about unimportant issues, and quoting verbaitum from the GOP Party Platform? Tut tut tut... -- Jim Walsh, 09:56:36 05/01/03 Thu
