Subject: Most hosts that I have read in print or heard in a speaking engagement, frankly, "wing it." You may be able to speak off the top of your head in a radio studio, but when you see a host do that in print, their written words seem to ramble on. I have not been impressed with what I've read. Most of it sounds like it was just spoken, recorded, and transcribed.

[> [> Bogey, I agree. Take Smerconish for example. His DN column seems like just a regurgitation of his radio show. The only exception I can think of was his Jayna Davis column (which was well-written and a good summary). -- MD, 12:12:09 12/20/02 Fri

[> [> [> I cannot figure out the Smerconish/Daily News marriage. The Daily News is a primarily urban readership, and the paper's writing has always been sharp, opinionated, and gritty- none of these are remotely associated with Smerconish. I could see his work in the Main Line Times, but in the Daily News it painfully stands out. -- Louis, 10:47:43 12/26/02 Thu
