Subject: Two years before the Challenger blew up the wife and I drove over to watch it lift off while on our honeymoon. This year our former neighbor will command the upcoming shuttle launch, we are doing a special educational unit at school on his mission. Needless to say this is like a death in the family to us. There's more to it but words fail me.

It is impressive to watch but I wonder if the returns of the space program are really worth the expenditure. Also, how much grief can the media wring out of events like this, especially after 9/11?
