Subject: The absolute WORST radio station in Philadelphia: WNWR

Seriously, the worst radio station I have ever heard. Time brokered aside, that station is the most awful thing I have ever heard. Only the cheesiest Klezmer music, and people who shouldn't ever be on the air EVER. What a waste of signal. Why does Irv Homer even bother paying for time there???

I agree that WNWR sucks. Not only is their sales team bad but i think the hole station is bad.
1-The on air telent is the worst I ever heard before. If this web site would do a top ten worst on-air Dj's their Dj's would all be on there.
2-Most wait I think all there advertisers are Jewish. I think they are a little one sided.
3-Last I would like to ask where do they find the people for the on air-telent. People like John Mcnulty, John Buckly, Mike V. and Bob Rovner aren't good on air telent. They need help or maybe they should find another job because this one is not cutting it.

This is why WNWR is not a good station. I think the Sales team need some big help. One big reason why i think this is because How can you get rid of IVR what station would do that. Any dumb sales man knows you need a sales pitch and WNWR doesn't have one. Wait I forgot The Barry Reisman Show. Thats a good one.

WNWR Sales need big help or the station is going down, Down Town Julie Brown style.........

[> [> The problem with radio is that you simply don't NEED a sizeable audience to be successful. All you need to do is keep your ad revenues above your expenses. That's why a station that doesn't even show up in the ratings can thrive for years, while a station with a respectable 3.5 can be losing money and have to flip formats. I suspect WNWR's salespeople are doing better than you might think. -- "Vince from Villanova", 00:12:44 10/25/02 Fri

Arbitron's diary cards are usually available only in ENGLISH and therefore are of little use to our listeners." -- The Rock (fair and balanced posting), 11:13:27 11/26/02 Tue

If your station has a monopoly on left-handed Albanian listeners, and enough advertisers are interested in wooing the lucrative left-handed Albanian demographic, you too can survive with a 0.2 rating. -- "Vince from Villanova" (Oh, that's right... radio's a business!), 23:28:09 11/26/02 Tue

I have two questions regarding some of the complainers-
1) Is it a bad strategy to serve the market needs of smaller niche voices such as radio programming in Chinese or French? These two groups along with Spanish are the largest growing population bases in the stagnate Philadelphia market. I will grant you that in the world of homogenous radio programmed out of a computer in LA, the effort may sound flawed. As Vince from Villanova pointed out, the cost of running a radio station is fairly inexpensive when you avoid costly items such as royalties to the record companies and constant station give-aways and promotions.

2) Where can someone learn the business today of radio after they leave an academic environoment? The truth is that Philadelphia doesn't have an open format community radio station.

I think your words are the words of someone who has no clue about radio, let alone...understanding what the nature of WNWR 1540 is. Stop wasting your time on websites and get a life....>>>>> you sound like a person who knows everything...
and with all the knowledge you have - it could fitin a thimble.
