I thought KTC3 was the pinnacle of excitement and class. Now, the countdown to Gravyfest is on...I got my bread ready for dipping! Yummy!

I'm curious to see the turn out for this affair. Are they expecting a crowd, like for the "Wing Bowl"? Who's not too bright an idea was this? I'll sit back and read the reviews on here. I know Rich will be there, front and center around Michael.

[> I hope that post was being sarcastic. My neighbor owns a restaurant and a WPHT sales rep has called on him 3 times trying to sell this turkey. They must be desperate, he tells me, because the price is practically a giveaway. I do not understand what is so interesting or compelling about this event. At least Wingbowl has entertainment value. This event will appeal to only Italian grandmothers in South Philly. -- Louis, 17:50:17 10/24/02 Thu

You've got to be nuts! Gravy only an interest to 'talian grandmudders in Salfilly? Get a life! I learned the fine art of gravy making when I was about 10 yo from the mothers of my two best friends, who happened to be Italian. One was the wife of a barber, the other the wife of a doctor. I am Irish and I make incredible great gravy called "Davey Gravy". Amongst the people who have raved over it are people of German, English, Scottish, Armenian, and YES Italians too! You are a poor little sheep who has gone astray! Blah! Blah! Blah! Mange and enjoy!

I'm heading out of town for the weekend. I hope that someone will give an accurate accounting of Sunday's fest. No way, would I want to break bread with Glenn Beck.

[> Strange Philly-ism #42: It's SAUCE, you strunatz, not GRAVY! Gravy is what you make from turkey, beef, or ham drippings, flour, and milk and pour over mash potatoes! AARGHH! I'm going to have your legs broken! -- Tessio, 09:03:14 10/25/02 Fri

[> [> The logic behind the use of the word "gravy," o Abe Vigoda wannabe, is that "gravy" is poured, while sauce is mixed in. Red tomato sauce/gravy is poured, the same as turkey gravy is. Sauces like Alfredo, are served mixed in. Botulism, of course, is best served on dipped bread in a public slobber-fest. This month's Wine Spectator suggests a nice Cold Duck with that. -- Madison, 14:44:21 10/26/02 Sat

[> [> [> Tessio is right. Any real Italian knows that to serve pasta properly is with the sauce POURED over it. Only low class goombahs serve pasta with the sauce already mixed in. That's horribly declasse, like putting ice cubes in a glass of wine, or serving corned beef on white bread, red wine with fish, etc. The recipes for gravy and sauce are very different. Ask any trained chef. Don't think that south philly is the center of the universe for true Italian cuisine. -- the Formal Observer, 17:26:53 10/26/02 Sat

Gravyfest was a HUGE success. This event topped previous attempts at the Food Festival. Great food, fun and entertainment. It was hands down decided that in Philly it is GRAVY. Regardless of your background, it is gravy. Bravo Big Talker 1210, WPHT.

I participated in GravyFest with my own special gravy, and I thought it was fun. Just about every one of my fellow contestants were wonderful, and the turnout was unbelievable. Don't miss it next year!
