  • Ratzinger might not have been my first choice, but I don't get a vote. And I do hear a lot of good things about the man personally, so hopefully those qualities will inform his papacy. But his 2001 writings which questioned (to put it mildly) the legitimacy of all other religions will mean that he will be greeted with doubt in many countries and by other churches. I'm just surprised the Cardinals picked a guy with this baggage (I could care less what he did as a youth). It leads me to believe that the focus of his papacy, at least initially, will be on internal reform. Has Cardinal Dulles said anything about the election of his fellow theologian? Anyway, we all owe the man the proverbial "clean shave". The election of John XXIII wasn't viewed enthusiastically, and look what he accomplished! (NT) -- John, Tue April 19, 2005 19:24:13
