• Interesting to note that we'll have one senior this coming season(Jermaine) and one the next season(Osei). Teams that do well in post season and in general usually have strong senior leadership, so our underclassmen will have to really step up in the leadership dept.       • McRae was listed as a junior on the web site at the beginning of this year. Don't know if that is in terms of eligibility or scholastic progress. He graduated from DeMatha in June of 2002, so one would think he has two more years of eligibility remaining. Since he was eligible at the beginning of the second semester, it would seem that he would have played at least some for Wagner in the year after DW left. So at best he would have 2 1/2 years of eligibility upon entering Fordham. Since he just used up one of those, he should have three semesters of eligibility left. I don't know how the NCAA does these things, and perhaps if Corey is on track to graduate in June of 2006, you could see him as a Graduate Assistant after that, given his leadership qualities he might be pointing to a coaching career.       • I asked McCrae about this during the pre-season dinner at the Water Club. He will be a senior next season. He played his freshman year at Wagner (that is one year), half a season at Wagner his sophomore year (two years) and half a season for us last year (three years). NCAA rules state that as long as you participate during a season and are not redshirted that the participation counts as a full season of participation. That is why I have never fully understood midyear transfers. They end up playing two half seasons which has to take away from the experience in my opinion and in essence robs them from a year of playing time. (NT) -- ace93, Sat April 09, 2005 16:28:02

      • Just stating the facts. Didn't a few coaches say Bryant Dunston would be NBA material if he continued to improve? That's only 3 less future NBA'ers than UNC! All I am trying to say is that you don't need senior leadership to be a winner, I think it's a crock. It takes talent and desire as well as familiarity within a system. I think that our team showed a lot of heart and a few of the guys showed that they were winners (Stout's three against URI). I don't think a lack of seniors will hurt or alternatively help us between this year and next year. Also consider the amount of playing time our freshmen got this year.         • Virtually all college coaches will tell you that senior leadership, generally speaking, is crucial to success(particularly in post-season play). There are exceptions to everything - in our case the freshman were able to gain unusual experience and I'm sure will mature faster than usual as players, but from watching college hoops since I was a kid, I believe the principle generally applies.     • UNC definitely did alright with their junior dominated team, but one has to give credit to the job done by their seniors down the stretch. In particular Jawad Williams really stepped it up. That is the type of difference seniors tend to make. You can definitely win with a team void of seniors, but seniors bring a certain intangible that other players do not always have.
