This has all been said before, but it is worth repeating. We haven't won one of these one on one "recruiting wars" with a major national power in a long time (if ever). For the foreseeable future we're either going to have to find real talent before the others or find the kids that are terrific but for whatever reason are undiscovered or un-ranked. I can't get too worked up about Austrie who became the focus of Big East, Pac 10, and other schools that, at present, are perceived as, for lack of a better term, glamourous by HS ballers who are in the spotlight. Anytime I see recruiting info posted about someone who we have interest in and then see what other schools are interested in him and see that it's a Big East or ACC program, I don't even bother thinking that we have a shot at getting the guy.   - We have made initial contact with over 100 players for '05-'06 recruiting, which is not surprising given how early it is and the fact that we have seen them in AAU games, high school tourneys, etc. Some of them are high major players but it's too early to tell if any are seriously interested in us. You never know until the player gets down to their final 6 or so schools. I think DW and staff will sign several more solid, tough, fundamentally sound players from winning high school programs in '05-'06. - At the stage we are in right now, I think it's critical to sign as many players early as possible. Austrie is a good example - we recruited him for a short time until he committed to UMass. If he had committed to us early instead of UMass, that would have been a major signing for us.
