Subject: Local HS stars get Garden invite--> Any of you going to watch Bethel?

The regional teams rosters for the Jordan Classic - to be played at the Garden on April 16 - were announced yesterday and include some of the best players in the New York area.

Two games will be played, one pitting the country's elite players against each other and another featuring city vs. suburban players.

Xaverian's Levance Fields was the only local player selected for the national game, but teammate Saiquon Stone was picked for the city team, which will be coached by Xaverian's Jack Alesi. St. Raymond's stars Chris Bethel and Ricky Torres will play for the city, along with Steve McKoy (Frederick Douglass Academy), Drew Gladstone (Cardozo) and Mike Davis (Banneker).

The suburban team, to be coached by St. Raymond's Oliver Antigua, will have Brentwood High's John Garcia, Tyrell Biggs of Don Bosco Prep and Tyrone Hanson and Tyson Johnson of St. Mary's of Manhasset.

  - Sure did. J.R. Iman wasnt invited though. Biggs isnt too impressive when Ive seen him play. Too bad he was disqualified from H.S. athletics this year and forced his team to forefit the entire season. He will need to cut some weight while at PITT. I think Bethel will hold his own.         Thanks for the articles. I cannot say I agree with the rulings, but rules are rules and therefore must be adhered to. I think NJ may want to look into changing the rule. Perhaps set it up so that once you have entered high school you are only allowed to play 4 years of high school basketball. If a kid is good enough to play high school basketball as a 7th or 8th grader then I see no harm if they do. (NT) -- J�Dete93, Tue March 22, 2005 16:31:59
        The majority of NJ public schools will vote against changing the rule. The majority of the teams that benefit from these kids who are affected by this rule who are from NY State attend Catholic High Schools just over the NJ/NY boarder. Public schools have always seen NY kids attending these schools as an unfair athletic advantage. They even go so far as accusing them of recruiting. I played football with one of the greatest running backs to play NJ high school ball, Cooper Rego. Rego was from NY State as was half our program. Our program which has been NJ winningest in the past 10 years, has always been comprised of a majority of Ny kids. Public schools find this as a tremdous disadvantage. These kids just want to attend better schools with better athletic programs. Biggs and J.R. Iman would never get the publicity they have gotten if they played for teams that went 5-20 in Rockland County. (NT) -- Smoochy, Tue March 22, 2005 17:09:15
    - As a DBP grad, I've been to a few games over the past few years. I agree, Biggs took a step back, I thought he played much better last year.
