Subject: The problem will always be the Big East tournament for the A10. I'm sure no one would want to have the A10 tournament in the tri-state area just for the fact it would emphasize the difference between the two leagues. Atlantic city would seem reasonable. The ACC played in dc this year and seemed to have great success. WIth that conference moving to a another location, it might serve the A10 well to slip in that area occasionally. However, the main thing is to move the conference tournament out of Ohio, at least for a short amount of time.

  • Saw the finals on tv last night, and the sections behind the basket above floor level were utterly empty. Don't know what attendance was, but it look for every game, (even the finals!) the cameras were positioned so as not to show empty seats above the first few rows in any part of the arena. As MidMajority report says, "I got your $50 right here!" Philly ad maybe DC ought to be the places to hold the tournament. Dayton's tough to get to, but at least the local fans packed the place. • If Xavier or Dayton made the final the place probably would have been packed. The problem with Ohio is it's remote for other schools in the A-10. The philosophy is to rotate the tournament locations every couple of years, which I think is a problem. The A-10 should consider the Big East model & choose an outstanding location and keep the event there long-term. That way, every year fans know they can plan to attend, book hotels, get show tix, etc. That consistency would pay off in the long run. BE fans know every year where they're going, what they're doing, etc. with their MSG tournament. A friend just spent the weekend in Atlantic City & said he, his wife & kids were amazed at how much more "family-friendly" Atlantic City has become. That might be an ideal central, long-term A-10 Tournament location. With all the shows, restaurants, etc. there it would probably draw better than other locations. Or purely for a basketball venue, I'd go with the Palestra/Philly. (NT) -- Rambacker, Sun March 13, 2005 11:20:10
