Subject: Devon 2 - North Tawton......6 Plymouth Argaum....5

Report from Tavistock Times
IN this bottom of the table clash the result was always going to be hard fought. And so it proved.

Both sides tried to gain an upper hand but it was even stevens with the game played in the middle of the park and neither side dominating.

North Tawton have adapted to play a ten-man game and it was just beginning to prove effective when Argaum put them under pressure. In a scrum resulting from this veteran No 8 Paul Venncourt got the touchdown to put the visitors into a five point lead after 20 minutes.

North Tawton stuck to their game plan and put Argaum?s heavier and experienced pack under pressure and were eventually rewarded with a penalty which Joe Fewings slotted over.

North Tawton, playing with heart and vigour, kept the game in their opponents? half. Martin Friggins at scrum half was having an outstanding game, tackling and looking for the ball to keep the forwards and backs on the move.

Ross Lawrence on the wing made good runs.

Another score was on the cards and again it was a penalty from Fewings? boot, leaving the score at 6-5 to North Tawton.

North Tawton pressure continued after the break and they kept Argaum camped in their own half.

Gary Denis, after a long lay-off, made a welcome substitution for ever-improving Adam Hooper. Richard Huxtable came on for injured Joe Fewings, Ryan King for Adam Wise.

North Tawton never looked like losing in the end, but will be disappointed by the narrow victory and the fact they did not score a try. But it was their first win in the league and a general all round improvement.

North Tawton are away to Exeter Saracens this Saturday in a friendly, kick-off 2.30pm.
