- Couple of questions for our !:18th scale experts out there. -- Rich, 04:42:22 10/21/09 Wed (cache-dtc-ab03.proxy.aol.com/205.188.116.67)
My son sort of lost interest in 1:18th scale figures and vehicles for a while, but regained interest again a few years ago. I guess I then lost track of what was coming out during the height of their popularity. First, did any of the manufacturers make a cast hull M4A1 Sherman? The TUS M4A1 is the welded hull variant. Also, did anybody make a late model Sherman such as the M4A3E6 or M4A3E8 with the HVSS suspension and wider track? BBi's Forces of Valor is currently releasing an M4A3, but an early version still with the VVSS suspension. Mainly just curious right now.

- New "how to" in the works -- Sgt. Howard, 17:36:58 10/20/09 Tue (NoHost/64.139.109.52)
Just got through educating myself in glass windows and cedar shake shingles in scale- 1/3rd of the East roof is covered along with the dormers. Figured out a pretty simple means to get a 'diamond' lead lattice window done, now trying to figure the scale glazing it in place routine. There are people stopping by the house to see this thing from time to time, might make the paper- not sure I want that just yet, would rather it be finished first. Also learned about French bread ovens- THEY WERE HUGE!!! 'spose that only makes sense when you bake for the village, eh? I want this thing done before the snows hit, certainly some Christmas shots are in order as German troops spend their last holiday season in Normandy.
...y'know... I've always wanted to do a "Godzilla" spoof... I've always seen it as Tokyo vs. Barney, but now I see "Gottinshimmelzilla" where the beastie sports a Pricklehaube and GOOSE-STEPS thru a Normandy township, 'seig heiling' hither and yon... imagen Göring in his finest with a reptillian tail and head and I think that's about right... whatcha think?

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Only one set today and it's another one of our continuing story episodes, so let's get right to it then.
Returning for today is our old friend Irish13 with the next exciting episode of his cool moder era photo story, The GunPoint, continued from photo set 3929. If you remember from the last episode, the Russians had a captured American that knew the location of the American traitor and this mysterious weapon. In this episode, we pick up right where we left off. I don't really want to give any of the storyline away here, so I'll simply say another really cool episode from Irish here in this series and I can hardly wait to see the next episode already. So if you've been following this one like I have, then you won't want to miss this cool new episode from our old friend. Special thanks to Irish13 for sending this new one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, I guess that does it for today. Without a doubt, more cool stuff on the way for tomorrow to check out, so be sure to come on back regular time. Until then... take it lite guys.

Ok troops, time for the first site update of the week. We'll start off with one of our continuing photo story episodes, so let's get right to it.
Returning for today is our old friend Warriors 1st BN with the next cool installment of his terrific sci-fi/ fantasy thriller "The Mission", continued from photo set 3921. If you guys recall from last episode, the blue haired girl, Motoko had slipped off from the camp site and while she was gone somebody had dropped some kind of gas grenade or something on the team. In this episode, we pick up right where we left off. I don't really want to give any of the storyline away here, but I will say another terrific episode here from Warriors. I never know what to expect with each new episode, but it always gets cooler every time. So if you've been following this one like I have, be sure to check out this cool new episode. Special thanks to Warriors 1st BN for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

- Phonetic Alphabet trivia- research material -- Sgt. Howard, 15:05:55 10/17/09 Sat (NoHost/64.139.109.52)
As some of you know, the phonetic alphabet of WWII was different than that of today. Up until recently I have not seen a full listing thereof, but since have found three. There is some inconsistancies, but to the best of my knowledge here it is in English AND German!!!
A- Able, Anton B-Baker, Berta/Bruno, C-Charley, Ceaser, D-Dog, Dora, E- Easy, Emil, F- Fox, Freidrich/Fritz, G- Golf/George, Gustav, H-How, Heinrich, I- Item, Ida, J- Jig, Josef, K- King, Konrad/Kurfust, L-Love, Ludwig, M-Mike, Martha, N-Nan, Nordpol, O- Oboe, Otto, P-Peter/Prep, Paula. Q-Queen, Quella, R-Roger, Richard, S-Sugar, Siegfried, T-Tare, Toni, U-Uncle, Ulrich, V-Victor,Viktor(!), W-William, Willhelm (!), X-X-ray, Xantippe, Y- Yoke, Ypren, Z- Zebra, Zeppelin-
Where words are seperated by a slash, BOTH words are deemed correct by different sources- some say one is Navy the other army, others say early war/late war. Of course, the first word(s) is/are English, second is/are German. Of note is that W and V use the same names in both languages. For those of you in search of this arcain trivia, here it is, use it well- SugarGolfTare space HowOboeWilliamAbleRogerDog out...

Ok troops, time for the last site update of the week. And as promised, it's another of our continuing story episodes, which I'm sure you'll enjoy, so let's get right to it!
Returning to wrap up this week is our old friend Hogie309 with the next episode of his WWII Marwencol saga, continued from photo set 3933. This is a part 1 of a new story installment entitled "The Longest Episode". This episode picks up right where we left off two episodes ago, with the 1/1... .er 1/6th... er 1/35th scale (heck, you know what I mean :) Fallschirmjagers planning an attack on Marwencol. It looks like Marwencol is about to get turned upside down again by the Nazis. I don't really want to give any of the story away here, but I will say this one is pure war movie stuff, so be prepared. You definitely won't want to miss the beginning of this cool new episode from Hogie, that's for sure. Special thanks to Hogie309 for sending this cool part 1 in and sharing it with all of us. Sharp Salute!

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Only one set today, but I thought it was a really nice one, so let's get right to it!
Up for today is friend and fellow trooper Oddbod is back with another one of his mini Civil War photo stories. This one doesn't go along with the Sherman stuff he was doing earlier. It's kind of a separate thing this time. This one features a lone Zouve and Confederate soldier who happen across each other. At the last moment, when someone is about to buy the farm... well, I'll let you see for yourself :) Another sharp photo story here from Oddbod for all you Civil War fans. So be sure to go take a peek at it. Special thanks to Oddbod for sending this cool new episode in and sharing it with all of us. Sharp Salute!

- Army adopting machine gun for Afghanistan -- Rich, 15:40:49 10/15/09 Thu (cache-dtc-ab03.proxy.aol.com/205.188.116.67)
According to the Military Newsletter email that I get, the U.S. Army is adopting the U.S. Navy SEAL Mk48 Mod 1 light weight version of the M240B machine gun. This weighs about eighteen and a quarter pounds compared the 27.5 pounds of the full sized gun. They are doing further research into another lighter weight version that the Army plans to refer to as the M240L. Some of you guys can get a jump on DML or other figure companines by bashing a gunner together using the Barrack Sergeant Mk48 Mod 0. Haven't studied these two guns yet, so you may have to make some modifications, but it should work. For further info, check out the source: http://www.military.com/news/article/new-machine-gun-for-joes-in-afghanistan.html?ESRC=army-a.nl

Ok troops, time for another cool site update. Only two small sets tonight, but both of them are pretty cool in my opinion, so let's get right to them!
First up, our old friend Scott Merry from the UK is back. It seems he wanted to show us guys some of the figures that are currently on display in his room. Mostly all of them are spec ops PMC types and all very sharp looking, even a couple females in there. It was definitely hard to pick my favorite out of these guys, I might have to go with that guy with the skull mask on though. But all of them, like I said, are very cool looking. So be sure to go check out some of the figures Scott has on his home shelf display. Special thanks to Scott for sending these in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

And last but not least for today, our old friend Kaber is back. Well, all you guys who know Kaber, know that he's a big KISS fan. It seems Ace Frehley has a new CD out and it inspired Kaber to upgrade his Ace figure to make him look more like Ace's current look, sporting a beard and everything. Just a few shots of him here, playing his guitar :) Kaber has also included a music file of one of the songs off the CD for all you Ace fans that might want to check it out. Special thanks to Kaber for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

... yea, starting to hang glass on this bad boy and finding out I'm in new territory. Not really sure what I'm doing, but I've gotten some diamond glazed windows done useing the 'liquid lead' used by glass painters to simulate lead paned glass (ie, stained glass construction). We shall see....

Ok troops, time for the first site update of the week. We'll start off with one of our continuing photo story episodes, so let's get right to it then!
Starting off this week is our old friend Irish13 with part 49 of his continuing WWII OSS story, continued from photo set 3920. Well if you guys remember from last episode, Cal and his girl decided to get married and some troops out on recon picked up a new resident on the outskirts of town. In this episode, the town prepares for Cal's wedding as the recon team and their new friend return to town. Another cool batch of photos here from Irish. He did mention though that this was the third from the last episode of Cal Lee's story, so get it while you can :) Special thanks to Irish13 for sending in this cool new episode and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, I guess that does it for today. Still not loaded down on photos or anything, but I definitely have something for tomorrow, so be sure to come on back and take a peek at what our fellow men have in store for us. Until then... take it lite guys.
Sharp Salute!

- Irish, I LOVE Vanessa's wedding dress... and Deja says she loves it too :) I feel like somethings building up[, to an explosive, yet sad, ending to this fabulous story of yours, Irish. Those are just my feelings on the matter. I think you have some kind of 'film director's' trick up your sleeve, hehehe. Great episode, Irish :) (NT) -- Hogie309 (HOH), 17:44:33 10/11/09 Sun

- SMG....You have to be nominated by a member for a great trade or doing a favor for a fellow member...... (NT) -- Buzz HOH, 19:15:23 10/11/09 Sun
- You can change you call sign at anytime you want SMG. As for becoming a Hoh Member, that's kind of in the hands of your trade partners. You need to have at least one trade with a Hoh member and then get them to nominate you here on the board. Then if I get a few glowing replies to that post from other board members here that you have traded sucessfully with, then you are IN. :) (NT) -- GL, 06:56:03 10/12/09 Mon
- oh ok, thanks, guess ill look around for a good oppurtunity to help someone (NT) -- SMG, 12:13:31 10/12/09 Mon
- and i want to change my user name from SMG to sledgehammah, email address is still the same (NT) -- SMG, 12:14:52 10/12/09 Mon
- I was nominated by FET like, maybe a year ago, and got favorable replies from GI George and Pistol Pete. I've since traded with many members, most of them HOH. Am I eligible? Thanks. (NT) -- Steve Cook, 21:57:54 10/13/09 Tue

- Thanks for the kind words on my Vehicles , I appreciate it VERY much !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-), And as it turns out .......... -- THE HIGHWAYMAN ( HOH ), 17:11:18 10/11/09 Sun (fl-71-1-154-35.dhcp.embarqhsd.net/71.1.154.35)
Like it says on the header my Humblest Thanks for your kind words on my scratch-built stuff . Like GL said " Now THAT'S the way they should have made the stuff in the FIRST place ! " Now that's HIGH praise indeed !!!!:-)
The inspiration for the " Villian Mobile " was the Armored Car from the James Woods Vampire film , and the SWAT VAN is a cross between the in the old TV Show , and a '62 or thereabouts CHEVY sTEP vAN . And as for the amount of work that it took to built them ,well , let's just say that I lost count of how long it took . What took the time was that every piece that went on them had to be cut by hand and then matched to every other piece that went on it .
I'd made a template / cardboard mockup a couple of years ago for the SWAT VAN , and so that was a fairly easy project to do . What was the MONSTER !!!!!!!!! of a project to do was the " Villian Mobile . That critter started out about the size of the 21st CT HUMMER , and then seemed to take on a lfe of it's own . And just kept on growing !!!!!
A twelve inch figure CAN stand up inside her , with plenty headroom to spare . She can be set up inside as a Troop Carrier , or a Freight / Munitions Carrier, and she could even be used to tow light artillery . Or a trailer , which she DOES come with , and for some reason never got included when I took the pics of her .
Like I'd said to GL via E-mail a while back ,
now more than ever I NEED to find a good Home for her , and for some of my stuff as well . And I need to do it soon , as I can really use the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ .
I know that moneys tight for everybody , but in my case the bucks are going towards a fairly heavy duty operation . Thank God it isn't a " Life Threatening " condition , but it sure isn't gonna be a walk in the park either . I'm going in for my second total knee reconstruction surgery in November, and that'll be my second one in the last five months . The first one was a success , and I'm PRAYING that the second will be as well .
The GOOD NEWS is that the Health Insurance Carrier that my Wife , Patty , has at work is picking up 100% of the cost of the operation . Which in these days , and times IS a miracle in , and of itself !!!!!!!!!
The BAD news is that it only covers part of my Hospital stay , and while the cost of it isn't astronomical it's a LOT more than we have on hand . My Wife , Patty , is the only one working , and I can guarantee you that I'M NOT happy about that . But there's not that much that I can do about as I originally got busted up in a rollover type construction accident back in 1994 . The Workman's Comp. clowns stalled me getting medical care for around two years , and minor operation turned into TWO major league ones . That left me with 35% use of my left shoulder , and 85% use of my right one .
Since I'd worked as a short haul Trucker , Auto Dismantler , and a Warehouseman for around thirty years , and couldn't do the work any more . And since the Workmans Comp. clowns wouldn't include any Job Retraining $$$$$ in my final settlement that left me without an income . Forty or fifty or more , maybe a hundred or more job applcations later I'm STILL unemployed , and illegal or NOT , I've been told over , and over that they can't hire me because I'm disabled . Then my knees went , and that just about finished me .................
Like I said before THANK GOD !!!!!!!!! that Patty has good Insurance where she works , and I CAN get them fixed or I WOULD have wound up in wheel chair , My knee pain WAS that bad , and that's no joke ..............
What's led me to have to find a Home for my stuff ASAP is that Patty's work got bought by another Company , and that they're cutting her benifits to the BONE . I found out last Monday that if I DON'T get my left knee done THIS year it's doubtful if I will ever get it done . As their going to an 80/20 coverage , and the C0-pay on the Surgery is gonna be 20% MORE money than I've seen in almost twenty years !
I don't want to go into dollars , and sense here , but for what ONE knee surgery costs these days I COULD buy TWO brand new 2010 CAMAROS that come with ALL the toys . For the NEW co-pay amount that they expect us to pull out of thin air I could buy a full dress 2010 HARLEY , AND !!!!! the co-pay for BOTH knees would equal what it would cost to put a brand new shiny CAMRY in my driveway .
And NO MATTER what side of the affordable Healthcare , or the LACK of it debate , here's something that you can believe in . If you DON'T have it you are so TOTALLY screwed .......................................
Sorry for the long post guys , but I just had to get this out of my system before I blew a gasket . Getting back to my stuff , IF you can give it a Home to say that I'd appreciate it doesn't even come CLOSE .
As far as the SWAT VAN , and VILLIAN MOBILE go I had a thought that might or might not be doable . Go in together, take up a collection , and buy them both . Then pick a couple of the truly MASTER MODELERS on this MB to take my stuff apart , reverse engineer it , correct my mistakes , and believe me when I say this stuff ISN'T perfect . Then make up an easy to follow set of plans for them , and make them available to anybody who wants them . JUST make SURE that GL gets the FIRST set of plans that get made , as one of these days he WILL have room for a " VILLIAN mOBILE " of his own !!!!! :-)
Besides the SWAT VAN , and the " VILLIAN MOBILE " , I've also got the GEYPERMAN COWBOY , and INDIANS , the 1/6TH scale MARK IV PANZER , a box of somewhere twenty five , and fifty nekkid guys , G I JOES , and 21st CT guys who need a Home . Four or five boxes of one of a kind customized RAH Joe Vehicles , plus a WHOLE BUNCH of accessories for them , shelters , tank traps , etc. As well as a bunch of 3 3/4" customized , fully equipped G I Joes , Joes , and an OP-FORCE for them that I set up when the COBRA guys started to get to me .
I've also got the top half of a PANTHER , and if worst comes to worst I MAY be getting rid of my scratchbuilt 251 HALFTRACK , and my STUG IV as well , but I'm hoping that it DOESN'T come to that .......................
Pricewise , as a pair , without the figures , about the lowest I go on the SWAT VAN , and the VILLIAN MOBILE is three hundred dollars plus shipping , which is about fifty bucks . Two hundred for the MARK IV PANZER , One hundred for the PANTHER , and the rest of the stuff is negotiable .
IF you guys CAN Adopt SOME of this stuff that would truly be a Godsend , as at least I'd KNOW that it's going to folks to love this stuff as much as I do . If not , no worries ,it's headed to e-bay sometime later this week.
One things for sure , just knowing that you guys are out there counts for one Hell of a lot with me .
Again , my apologies for the gigantic post , as you've probably noticed I DON'T post all that often any more . But when I DO I SURELY seem to make up for it !!!!!!!!!! :-)
THE HIGHWAYMAN ( HOH )
POW / MIA YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN , NOT NOW , NOW EVER !!!!!!
