Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Two cool projects from a single submitter tonight, so let's get right to them!
First up for tonight from Taskforceraider and son is a father and son team-up project featuring their Mini-Mes. I love to see those father and son bonding projects around here, and I can see these Mini-Mes are definitely that! I love that t-shirt on Taskforceraider's son's figure and Taskforceraider's Mini-Me is very close to dead on! It looked like a fun project for these guys, so be sure to go check the photos of these cool Mini-Mes out, I'm sure you'll get a kick out of them like I did! Special thanks to Taskforceraider and son for sending these cool projects in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

And last but not least for today, another one from Taskforceraider of his cool, custom Resident Evil Apocalypse movie character, Carlos Olivera. I don't know about you guys, but I think Taskforceraider nailed this guy! He looks every bit a right out of the box figure to me. So if you're a Resident Evil fan, you won't want to miss this one! Special thanks to Taskforceraider for sending this sharp looking project in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, that does it for today. As always, I'll be posting the next site update when I get it. Until then... take it lite men.

Well, you guys were close... those forces used their sled dogs as an early NORAD, as the animals could hear the planes far sooner than their masters could. I am sure they probably used a few local bird and marmots too.
I am going to slow down for a bit here, as real life is going to occupy me for a bit... regulatory inspections, job interviews, and an annual "busy time" for my industry are all going to need my focus for a bit. So, take it light, and I'll be back!

All right, I'll give up a few answers here, because you guys are really close...
The Japanese used all kinds of things for petroleum substitutes, as noted by El Paso Trooper, including pine resin oil. However, their airplanes frequently ran on Shark Liver oil as a lubricant, because of its properties.
I messed up my reading skills, and must give an apology to EPT... he guessed 20 as the number of German tanks in combat in WWI, and that was correct. Mea Culpa, my friend, I was a victim of stinkin' thinkin'. You got it right.
And, lastly, EPT is right again, the US Coast Guard protected Greenland from Axis incursions during WWII, putting them well above the Arctic Circle, even above their Alaska routes. Good job!
Today's question:
What did allied forces at Jan Mayen use as an early warning system for air raids?

Apparently, I buried this in the reply to the other question... my apologies.
During WWII, the Japanese Air Force (along with the rest of Japan) suffered a severe petroleum oil shortage.
What did IJA/IJN Air Mechanics use for their airplanes instead?

Hey, we got the answer for my dad's trivia question... Seabees loved to get their hands on the BAR. It was a better palm tree cutter than a chainsaw (as anyone that has ever tried to cut a palm tree can attest), because the BAR simply blasted through the fibrous trunk of the tree, rather than having to clear your saw blade of palm fibers every second cut. Good job!
As a bonus, my dad also told me that scraps of rubber, from life boats, were much sought after in the Pacific as well, to help give the GI's a better grip on the wood stocks of their weapons in the moist, wet/humid tropical combat they faced. Especially the automatic weapons, like the Thompson... a scrap of boat rubber in the foregrip hand might mean you could keep hold of the slick wood, rather than having it rise out of your wet hand.
We are still looking for the answer to the German tank count of WWI, but we have a close answer (a bit low, but not too far off).
Today's question, for the weekend:
What was the US Coast Guard’s most northerly patrol area in WWII?

11B1SG knew the answer! The US accepted foreign money to finance the Revolutionary War, and again, during the First Gulf War. But, nothing in-between (officially).
The US routinely accepts foreign aid for other things, however, like natural disasters.
Today's Question:
In WWI, the British built 3000 tanks, the French 4000, and the Germans built how many (that actually saw action)?

11B1SG had the right and best answer, even though I was looking for more "Tyrone Power (USMC) and Allen Ladd (Army0" were heartthrob movie stars at the time, and had enlisted in the war effort.
As 11B1SG pointed out correctly, they did so just like millions of others, intent on doing their duty.
They were just a little more famous for it.
Today's question:
In 1967 Master Sergeant B.J. Dulinsky (USMC), who had volunteered for duty in Vietnam, reported to the Military Assistance Command in Saigon; nothing terribly unusual about that.
Except, it was unusual. What made this a historic first for the USMC?

Ok troops, finally time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Boy, that was quite the lull there for a while, but we definitely have something for today, so let's not waste any more time and get right to it!
Returning for today is our old friend Zman with another one of his cool out of the ordinary projects. This time, we get a cool what looks like Victorian era Vampire hunter, complete with his Vampire hunter suitcase filled with his various instruments of vampire death! It looks like he's even got a book of instructions. A very sharp looking figure here and that case of accessories is just super cool! So if you're into this kind of stuff like I am, then you won't want to miss taking a peek at this guy. He would make such a great boxed figure! Just a heads up, I am traveling tomorrow and Friday, and so won't be online to update this, so I will try to find one to make you work hard.
Today's question:
During the wartime Oscar awards ceremony in 1943, two American servicemen carried the American flag as Jeanette MacDonald sang the national anthem. One was a US Marine Private, and one was a US Army Private.
Who were they?

Zman took a good guess at the Seabee's most desired weapon, but alas, it's not what I was thinking of/told, so we'll let that one simmer a while longer.
Today's question:
After the war, in 1946, Marine units landed and attacked combatants on this island; using rifles, machine guns, grenades and mortars to displace them from their bunkers.
What island was this, and who were the objects of the marine attack?

El Paso Trooper, you were dead on the stick! Those particular Chicom weapons had been infested with Termites, and the fore-grips were toast... Rotted and sawdust filled holes, if there was anything left.
Now, we'll do one from my own father... (USN, active, December 8 1941 to December 7, 1945, USNR 1947 - 1950)
This weapon was much coveted by Seabees during World War II, although it was never officially issued to them. They would trade almost anything to get one from the Army or Marine units, when they could.
We'll make a multi-part question out of it...
What weapon was it?
Why did the Seabees want it so much/What did the Seabees use it for?
And Lastly, for those who really dig deep...
What "tool" or addition did the Seabees design to use with that weapon, to make it an even easier tool for them to use?

Well, I guess Friday's question was pretty easy, as everyone knew that the famous "quitter" in question was Evan Carlson.
We also managed a correct answer to the Allied Powers of WWI. The major Allied powers in World War I were Great Britain, France, and the Russian Empire. Other countries that had been, or came to be, allied by treaty to one or more of those powers were also called Allies: Portugal and Japan and Italy.
Other countries—including the United States were called “Associated Powers,” not Allied powers; U.S. President Woodrow Wilson emphasized that distinction to preserve America’s free hand.
And, just to wrap things up, and start the week fresh: Douglas MacArthur's first taste of the enemy was as a child, a toddler, in fact, when the fort his family lived in was attacked by Native Americans. Young Douglas watched as the Native Indians raided the fort, unsuccessfully.
Today's question:
What US Commander-in-Chief served his country as an enlisted man only, NEVER as an Officer?

Still no correct answer on the Allied Powers of WWI, so.. we'll leave that over the weekend, and answer that and Douglas MacArthur's first taste of combat on Monday, if no one gets it before then.
Today's question:
What famous person am I describing here?
Enlisted in the US Army at age 16, where he served three years, and left as a Master Sargeant.
Returned again to the US Army, served as a second lt. in the artillery, before leaving again.
Enlisted again as a private in the Marine corps.
Quit again.
Recommissioned as a Major in the Marine corps. Served to the rank of Lt Colonel.
Often attributed as the First to use the term Gung-Ho.

All right, trooper Sharpie cleared the boards for us.
As far as I can tell, Japan is the only country in the world that still issues a Revolver as the weapon of choice for their police, that never issued them when they were the weapon of choice for almost every police force in the world. Back when everyone carried Webley's and S&W's, Japan's police were unarmed.
The CSS Shenandoah did indeed carry on their "privateer" operations after the Civil war officially ended, racking up an impressive haul of Northern (merchant) ships.
And, Spec 4 Ken Busy was thrown to the ground by an enraged elephant, while serving in Vietnam, earning him the title of "only US serviceman injured by an angry elephant" in the war.
Thank you Sharpie, for that fine work!
Let's go on to Thursday's question...

Well, we are getting closer to Monday's answer, but the answer is NOT a mythical creature, it is a real, life animal that is responsible. Another hint: although I can't prove it, I would guess than the great General Hannibal might have lost a few soldiers in a similar manner.
Tuesday's question is still open: the guesses about tonfas, billy clubs, and bo sticks are good, but not quite correct. A lot of police forces across the world are issued some type of club or baton. I'll give you a clue on this one too: It has to do with the type of firearm that the Japanese police are issued.
Finally, today's question:
The CSS Shenandoah was one of the best Naval “pirates” for the confederacy during the war, capturing 38 Union ships. However, over 2/3rds of her captures of Union Vessels don’t count towards her records. How come?

Okay, back again for another week, and we've added another two players.
Sharpie got the Tiger tank question: the first two Tiger tanks destroyed in combat were destroyed by their own tank crews, abandoned during battle, and blown up so the Soviets could not get their hands on the technology. It was shortly after that, that the Soviets and the British got more chances to blow Tigers up.
11B1SG and Sharpie both knew where Rommel got his goggles... from a British POW (technically, from a captured British Staff Car). Good job!
And, Sharpie nailed th call on the First Foreign Soil. The first soldiers set foot on foreign soil in St John's, Newfoundland, in January of 1941.
So, that clears the queue, and we can start the week fresh!
Today's question: In April of 1969: a US soldier was injured while on combat patrol in a way no other soldier in Vietnam was. How was this Spec 4 injured?

Like I said, more outstanding photos from Hogie of his superhero girls battling the fake president and his Nazi minions. Once again, I just hooked these onto the end of the last batch of photos so Gran Sasso A Parody will be all under the same photo number (4997) if you go view the whole thing in its entirety in the future. But today I'll just send you to the new photos. So if you've been following this one, then you won't want to miss this final batch of photos from this episode! Special thanks to Hogie309 for sending another awesome photo shoot in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Okay, another day, and we've doubled our readership!
And, we've had some success! Napalm in the AM nailed the first daily trivia correct: Sailors aboard the USS Lexington had Ice Cream as their last meal aboard ship. As the battle raged around them, the Lexington was damaged, and sinking, and the quartermasters opened the freezers, and started handing out as much ice cream as the sailors could take. Knowing it would sink with the ship, the QM's decided to give the sailors a last treat, as they abandoned ship! Some sailors reported scooping complete helmets full, and eating it as they waited for orders.
Yesterday's question is still not answered, so here's a hint: Tiger tanks were first introduced by the German Army on the Eastern Front, not the Western.... So it wasn't the British that accounted for the destruction of the first two.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted on the site here. My first photo submit was #6 and last was #2312. I took break when my son started Scouts in first grade. So I spent 12 years as a Leader all the way thru. Many camp outs and projects. All done now and been pulling out the collections for some more fun. There have sure been some really cool photo submissions here lately and I’m still catching up. Congrats to you GL for keeping this site going. Hands down it’s the best ever. Hopefully I can get something together soon and submit. Take care troops.

Hey, the first day of Trivia was a stumper (so far), as Zman's guess (Steak and Eggs) isn't correct. Since this was the inaugural question, I am going to leave it open longer, until someone gets it (Zman, take another shot at it!).
But, we'll toss out another question today, or else, it's not really "daily".
During World War II, who destroyed the first two German Tiger tanks in combat?

Welcome to 2019!
I am going to restart my military (and neo-military trivia) again, and run it for as long as there is interest here. I hope you will give it a read, and enjoy.
And yeah... trivia in the age of the internet is tough, but I hope I can convolute the question enough to make some of them hard to do! Remember, hide your answer inside your reply, so others can enjoy and try!
What famous "last meal" did the men aboard the U.S.S. Lexington have during the Battle of the Coral Sea?

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. So let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend The Highwayman, returning with a little holiday themed photo shoot. Here we get more pictures of that cool, scratch-built gun truck of his and his hot chick gun truck crew. It seems they needed a Christmas tree for home base so they went out and got one. It's definitely cool to see that scratch-built gun truck again, so be sure to go take a peek at this one if you have a spare minute or two. Special thanks to The Highwayman for sending this cool submission in and sharing it with all of us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, I guess that does it for today. I still have some more pictures from Hogie and some from Nickels and one from our old friend Pvt. Mel if I could figure out how to save the dang thing! So be sure to come on back Monday for more cool 1/6th work from our fellow men in the field. Until then, take it lite men.

Very interesting rendering of hogie's story. stop motion photography to imagine from Hogie's fantasy viewpoint. Was not disappointed and my wife, not into 1/6 at all, liked it as well. Recommend you see it before they pull the movie from the theaters. Its good. I've seen the PBS documentary and, though both are different, both excel in their own ways HOGIE, do you remember when you posted the story line(s) featuring Kalt Bier? My wife wants to see them.

Ok troops, time for another cool site update. So let's get right to it!
Returning for today is the next installment from our old friend Hogie309 of his latest photo story, "Gran Sasso: A Parody". So far, we've seen the fake president get rescused by the Nazis and then Wonder Woman and Supergirl coming to kick some Nazi butt. Today it looks like the Scarlet Witch joins the superhero women's team, and I don't think that's going to be a good thing for the remaining Nazis because she's got some serious magic! Once again, some very cool photos from our old friend that you won't want to miss. So be sure to go take a peek! Again, I've added these to the end of the last photo shoot so they will all be in the same place, but I'll today I'll send you to the newest photos. Special thanks to Hogie309 for sending another cool batch of photos in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

Ok troops, time for another cool site update. Just a small one today, but in my opinion, filled with some super cool stuff, so let's get right to it!
Today, our old friend Mikey is back with a few of his custom figures. And let me tell you - he's done some terrific work on these guys. The first one is a custom character of the Witcher figure from the novels/ video game. I have to say he looks so good, this could be a straight out of the box figure easy, he looks just like the character. Next up we have a Star Wars Rebel Endor commando with customized gun. Once again, another fantastic figure here from Mikey. Then next up is a very very cool DC Comics Green Arrow figure. This is not the guy from the TV series, this is the actual comic version and Mikey killed it. He's just the way I always hoped a straight out of the box Green Arrow would look. He's a more modern version of the Green Arrow. And last but not least is the Casey Jones figure from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Once again, Mikey has done a beautiful job. So definitely if you have a couple minutes, be sure to check out these awesome projects from our old friend. In my opinion, he's done some really great work here. Special thanks to Mikey for sending these in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

Hey all! Yeah, I'm pretty sure no one knows or remembers me, it's been forever since the last time I visited here. I saw an article about Mark H. recently and it just brought back all my memories from my collecting days (2002-2012ish). Pretty excited to see some of my old haunts still going (Monkey Depot, Justice fighters) and of course this forum! I got out of collecting and kitbashing a long time ago but I still have my whole collection and vehicles boxed up.

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Sorry about skipping the last couple site updates, but it looks like it's sinus infection season for ol' GL here again. Those things really wipe me out. Anyway - all good to go now, so let's get right to today's update!
Returning for today is our old friend Nickels with more shots from around his firebase. First up are a couple 12" figures his friend rescued from the trash, and Nickels decided to put them in action inside of his firebase's mini-bunker. Then we move on to some photos of his firebases' supply depot. Nickels has amassed quite a bit of barrels, crates, ammo., and cartons of rations. And last, we have some shots of his firebases' latrine, which is my favorite part of this shoot. A great looking project in my opinion! So be sure to check out the latest photos from around the firebase! Special thanks to Nickels for sending another cool shoot in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Sorry about nothing Thursday, but I didn't have anything in the bin to post at that time. Fortunately, we got something in for today, so let's get right to it!
Returning for today is our old friend Hogie309 with a big 50 plus photo shoot. This is a part of his Fake President series and it's only a part one to this specific story entitled "Gran Sasso Raid - a Parody". Hogie mentioned that he skipped forward in sequence of his filming in this story and this episode happens way after the last episode we saw. He did give us a bit of text at the beginning to sort of let us know what's going on. Once again, more awesome photos from Hogie. His German Fallschirmjagers show up in this one and they are all awesome looking. So if you have a minute, be sure to take a peek at it. Special thanks to Hogie309 for sending this cool update in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Returning for today is our old friend Vtkljnky with more of his cool vehicle projects. This time, no indoor stuff though, all outdoor shots! Pretty much all the vehicles we've seen recently including his WWII US stuff and his Brit stuff. I have to say our old friend took some really great outdoor shots and picked a terrific location. It really shows off the realism of all the work he has put into the vehicles, by putting them in an outdoor setting. Great stuff here in my opinion, so definitely don't miss it! - Vtkljnky, this is the stuff I'm talking about !!. . . Your vehicles in the European countryside, with troops in realistic, natural poses. Ok troops, time for another cool site update. Since it's Halloween, here's your Creature Triple Feature Halloween Special! So let's get right to it.
First up for today is our old friend Zman with a very cool Halloween shoot featuring a super cool skull-faced 18th century Highwayman, a very creepy looking scarecrown, a beheaded 18th century British soldier, and a grave digger, all in a little diorama he set up with tombstones in a graveyard. Awesome stuff here from our old friend for sure. You won't want to miss this one! Special thanks to Zman for sending these cool Halloween shots in and sharing them with us. - Sharp Salute!

And last but not least some photos from me. A continuation of those "fancy background" photos I took last Halloween - here's a few pictures of my Sideshow Lon Chaney Jr. as the Werewolf.
