OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. So let's get right to it!
Returning again this week is our old friend Kaber with part two of his cool astronaut Adventure Team themed photo shoot "Mercury Mike." In this episode, we get to see Mike's launch. Kaber mentioned that Mike actually rode this 1/6th scale rocket and it's all real photos of the rocket launch up until the point he reaches space of course. It looks like there were some people on the ground that had some cameras and it also looks like there was one mounted on the rocket itself, shooting back down toward the ground. An awesome photo shoot here, even if it wasn't part of this terrific story. So definitely don't miss this one, must see stuff here! Special thanks to Kaber for sending this awesome shoot and story in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Up for today is our old friend The Lizzard King with a cool part one of a new Adventure team story entitled "Adventure Team looking for Rex." Not a whole lot going on in this first episode, but we do get a good look at all of his Adventure Team as well as their vehicles. Of course, we've got an old Joe and his Trouble shooter leading the way. A great little backyard shoot here which are always the most fun for me. Hello,
I'm Bob. I have been a fan of The Ultimate Soldier since it first came out in stores. The majority of my collection centers around WWII. However, I do have a few modern and Viet Nam figures. At last count, there wer 112 figures. I also have a Stuart, WSC jeep, PAK40, Kett, Schwimmer, Kube, motorcycle w/sidecar, and 2 Mutts. I have also been a fan of the Unofficial 21st Century website for years. Although the majority of my figures are TUS, ther are some GI Joes mixed in. All of the un iforms are 21st Century. However, most of the equipment and accessories are from Dragon, DiD, or other customizers. I also have a few Dragon model kits that I'm making parts for because Dragon either got the parts wrong or left them out. It is getting very hard to find certain 21st Century loose parts. Cotswold and Justice Fighters are the main two sites I use to purchase 21st Century parts/figures, but these sites are limited based on what they purchase from other people. I have been a member of the Sixth Army Group (SAG) since 2007. My handle is "Rob48". I live about 50 miles south of Des Moines, IA in a little town named Osceola. I am also a 20 year Air Force veteran. I retired in 2000. The nearest collector to me is Paul Raines. He is also a member of the SAG and his handle is ".308". Paul and I have met several times. He is a great guy with a lot of talant. He makes 1/6th data plates for vehicles. I have been purchasing items from PanzerWerks, Cotswold, Toy Soldier Brigade, Monkey Depot, Battlegear Toys, East Coast Armory, and Justice Fighters (just to name a few) for several years. I do not have a PayPal account. I mainly use postal money orders and the occasional credit card when neccessary. I was wondering if I could officially join your community and do some trading or buying. Please fel free to contact any of the above companies. Thank you, Bob

OK troops, time for the first site update of the week. Sometime a bit different for sure for us here, so let's get right to it!
Recently I was contacted via email by one of the 21st artists who created 18 of the pieces of artwork for the 21st boxed sets. His name is Marc Ericksen, a decorated Vietnam Veteran and illustrator. He actually posted a message here on the board about a week and a half ago, but unfortunately his post was posted on a Saturday right before our recent photo contest results were posted on that Sunday. So I have a feeling you guys didn't see it. I must admit it even passed by me.
He contacted me and was wondering if there was any interest from any of the 21st fans for purchasing some signed art prints of his original box art. He wanted us to give him some feedback on whether there would be any interest in this kind of thing. I don't know about you guys, but it sure interests me :) A cool part of 21st history for sure. Imagine having some of these hanging on your wall?!
I wrote him back and asked him a few questions and he told me if he does print some up for sale that the prints would be 13" X 19" on museum quality acid free heavy bond paper, using 75 year Epson inks, and he hand signs each one in pencil. As far as pricing, he said for the first year, the price would be $35. per print, and if the recipient requested, he could personalize the inscription. As in "Best wishes Green Leader", or "Best wishes John."
He usually puts a descriptor about the making of the art for the package, but there are no titles or graphics otherwise. He said he was thinking would do the same for the Ultimate Soldier Series. He is curious to hear whether you guys prefer the descriptor, or prefer the print with nothing but the art and signature.
I posted in the scrapbook 12 of the 18 pieces of artwork that he created for 21st and the final photo is just a mock-up of the print with the descriptor so you guys can see what it would look like with the descriptor on it. Also, there is a link on the scrapbook page directly to his website. So please read his previous post that I will repost below and let him know your thoughts. Feel free to spread this news around to other forums too if you want to see what kind of interest it generates, or send them here to post their feedback for Marc personally. Thanks guys!
The link to the scrapbook page is directly below and following that is his original post.

Any interest in Ultimate Soldier box art illustrations? -- Marc Ericksen, 19:47:55 01/19/13 Sat
I thought I'd check in to gauge interest in my producing high quality prints of a number of the illustrations that I did for the
21st Century Toys Ultimate Soldier series back in the nineties to 2000. I'm considering offering these prints the same
way I do my early video game box art, which you can see on my site retrogameart.com
The prints would show only the art as it was delivered to the client, free of copy, titles, inclusions and violators that
always accompany packaging reproductions.
Does anyone feel there might be enough interest?
My art was seen on the covers of eighteen of the original classic 12" action figures, including the DAK Infantry, U.S.
Tank Commander, Brit 8th Army, British Commando, Russian Spetznatz, 101st Airborne Pathfinder, USMC Raider,
Japanese Infantry, SAS Scud Hunter, Navy Seal Stoner gunner, NVA Regular, MACV Spec Ops, Fallschirmjager
Gran Sasso, German officer Monte Cassino, German machine gunner, Modern U.S. Army Ranger, and Viet Cong.
As a combat veteran myself, having served in the U.S. Army for six years, and through two tours in Vietnam, first as an
FO with the First Infantry Division, then an Infantry advisor with Vietnamese Regional Forces, and on my second tour
with Vietnamese Rangers, I was honored to do these illustrations of combat soldiers through modern history. You can
see more of my art at marcericksen.com
Thanks! - Marc

OK troops, time for the first site update of the week. A cool new photo story - well sort of new. So let's get right to it!
Up to start off this week for us is our old friend Kaber with his prequel story to his Adventure Team "Project Pilgrim" photo story. If you remember, Project Pilgrim was about going to the moon. This takes place before that in the early stages of the mission. This one is entitled "Mercury Mike." This was a pretty large photo story, so I broke it up into four pieces and tonight we'll be seeing part one. As always, more excellent work from Kaber and of course, it being the Adventure Team, for old Joe collectors like me, it really brings back the nostalgia. So be sure to check out this cool part one of "Mercury Mike"! Special thanks to Kaber for sending this awesome project in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

My name is Ryan Peterson and I go by the handle "Casual_Collector" over at Onesixthwarriors.com. I am trying to get together the resources and people necessary to put together a general history of 21st Century Toys.
Topics to be included are as follows:
-The genesis of the company
-The principal figures of the design team
() Interviews with former employees about their work with the company
-A look at design and manufacturing pieces
-How 21C expanded its initial line
-How the design team chose topics for development
-The Fan Club
-The Second Wave
-Grimsphere
-Controversial figures
-Promotional materials and marketing
And, assuming the principal figures agree, the demise of 21C.
Rex Adams has agreed to assist the project and Marcelo Fuentes is supplying some documentary pieces (photos of prototypes and the workshop)to assist. Any former employees who are willing to donate time for an interview or resources (such as photos from 21C) are greatly appreciated, as is anyone willing to volunteer time to process any information or help write this out.
The completed product will be hosted on Pistol Pete's or another similar site for general public consumption.
If you would like to participate or have any questions, please contact me at peterson.ryanl@yahoo.com.
Thank you for your time.
-Ryan

- zman just admit your guys are trying to radio the Vagabonds for backup. seriously nice detials and the setup rocked too. And to sarg nice classic style figure and way to brave the weather for some neat snow shots! (NT) -- alan of the vagabonds, 09:53:11 01/29/13 Tue
- Z-Man, the outfitting of your troops was meticulous and the construction of the diorama base was outstandingly stunning. The way that you were able to get the troops to then meld with the terrain is exceptionally artistic. Question: is the SEAL in the third photo wearing a Texas state flag . . . upside down? (NT) -- Chairborne, HoH, 10:47:38 01/29/13 Tue
- Sgt Brasso, your snow shots are so simple, yet quite beautiful with the way that the natural sunlight illuminates the terrain. I especially find the last photo poignant - - the trooper pausing along a trail of footprints. It reminds me of my Boy Scout days at winter camp in the Berkshires. It was great tracking a target in the snow because the footprints were so easy to follow. It wasn't so great being tracked in the snow because the footprints were so easy to follow. Your man needs to get a pair of gloves if he intends to stay out in the field, though. (NT) -- Chairborne. HoH, 10:59:23 01/29/13 Tue

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. So let's not waste anymore time and get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Mikey with another one of his cool, customized figures. Well, I assume he's customized because I haven't seen this guy for sale anywhere, but he sure looks like a straight out of the box figure. This one is the GI Joe Outback character from the Real American Hero Joe series. One terrific looking figure here which I'm sure will thrill all you RAH Joe fans like myself. Mikey has taken some awesome outdoor photos of him too in a great shoot location. So if you're a fan of the RAH Joe line, then this is definitely must see stuff! Special thanks to Mikey for sending this cool figure in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Just wanted everyone to know I haven't jumped ship on my story. I've had a bit of writer's block, plus found a major flaw in my doll house AKA The Ultimate Cottage, because of this flaw I'll be spending the next few weeks on my house. Man, how 1/16" can ruin everything :-( ... Jason

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Sorry it was a bit late tonight, but my stupid email kept crashing on me. Anyway, I finally got it, so let's get right to it!
Up for today is another update from our old friend Warriors 1st BN on his cool Sdkfz 250 kit project. He's having to scratch build a lot of details for this. It's still in its early stages here, but definitely some interesting stuff he's doing which if I know Warriors, will turn out to be pretty darn amazing when he's done. So if you've been waiting for the next update on this cool project like I have, then definitely don't miss this one. Special thanks to Warriors 1st BN for sending this cool update in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

- A kind thanks goes out to someone -- Alan of the Vagabonds, 09:50:36 01/23/13 Wed (static-65-175-137-44.cpe.metrocast.net/65.175.137.44)
I owe yet another someone a thanks... a mystery box appeared in the mail yesterday at my post office box. I opened it and found it stuffed full with WWII weapons and personal bits. What a great way to spend some time cooped up in the house in the cold weather... to refit the guys and gals of the Vagabond Universe of WWII Tunisia and give them a few more detials.
I always had mixed feelings about my charactor wearing that bandolier in the past, it looked very cool but made no sense since he carried a thompson and a 45. Now he might be actually able to reload his own guns!
All these new bits from folks... One thing freaks me out. My charactor seems a little too interested in the nazi officers cap and Steph took his new tommy! (she holds it well with the small grip) - Alan of the Vagabonds

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. A cool collection set today, so let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Lizzard King, if you remember from the board, that tropical storm Debbie back in June of last year really whalloped his house and ruined a lot of the boxes his collection was in. Of course, the tough little soldiers weren't damaged so they were just pulled out of their boxes and displayed now that his house has been restored. They even have their own room now! I'm glad to see Lizzard King is up and running again after all this time. In this shoot we get to see Lizzard's entire collection in its display room. It looks like a lot of the mint in the box stuff did manage to survive too and he's got a ton of figures of all types and all kinds of genres. I loved his Adventure Team guys, especially that custom white-haired one with the eye patch. Of course, that's not the only thing to see here. There's plenty to see, so definitely be sure to check this one out, it's an impressive collection. Special thanks to Lizzard King for sending in this cool collection and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

OK troops, time for the first site update of the week. Something a little different and unique to start off the week with, so let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Firefox1435. It seems he recently purchased a piece of 21st Century toys history on eBay; two prototypes for two modern Russian weapons that were never produced by 21st. He mentioned that Rex verified that they were in fact 21st prototypes and even though they're in their base prototype condition, you can just imagine what they would look like all painted up and detailed. Wow - too bad 21st never got around to these. A great find by Firefox, so definitely be sure to check these out, you won't want to miss them! Special thanks to Firefox1435 for sending in this very cool submission and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

OK troops, time for the last site update of the week. And we'll wrap it up with one of our continuing photo stories, so let's get right to it!
Ending this week for us is our old friend Alan of the Vagabonds with part 7 of his Vagabonds tale, The Lost City of Naalra. In this episode, the Vagabonds set up an HQ in Naalra. I don't really want to give any more of the storyline away than that. Once again, another pure Alan photo story episode here with more great text. So if you've been anxiously awaiting the next Vagabonds episode like I have, then definitely don't miss this one. Special thanks to Alan of the Vagabonds for sending this cool new episode in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, I guess that does it for this week. I do have a thing or two to start off next week with I think, but we're pretty low on photos around here. But like I said, I do have something to start off next week with, so be sure to come on back regular time Sunday night/ Monday morning when we'll get this whole thing started up again. Until then... take it lite men.
Have a great weekend guys!
Sharp Salute!

I have a few questions about the history of say around 1940.
Did they have mine detectors or was it done with bayonets?
Did they have any nite vision scopes?
How cold at nite could it get in north africa in Tunisia?

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. So let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Pvt. Mel. He's back with another one of his cool WWII setups from France, 1944. This times, some German FJs take their positions in the woods inland to stop the Allied infantry from coming inland. Another cool setup here again from Mel for sure, with lots of great photographs. His camera work just keeps getting better and better all the time, I think. So definitely don't miss this one. Mel's stuff is always must see in my opinion. So be sure to check it out! Special thanks to Pvt. Mel for sending this cool shoot in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

- you got some great figures and a detialed set up going on there. good thing my vagabonds are in north africa, i would hate to have to go up against those guys with that firepower (NT) -- alan of the vagabonds, 12:27:41 01/17/13 Thu
- Mel, I LOVE the way you have this scene set up !!! I really love the poses and the fact that there's something happening in every little frame, that you've taken. Outstanding camera angles too, old friend :) (NT) -- Hogie309 (HOH), 17:08:37 01/17/13 Thu

- Anyone notice...... -- GL, 08:05:43 01/15/13 Tue (96-41-218-55.dhcp.elbg.wa.charter.com/96.41.218.55)
.....the buyers and sellers on eBay are going insane? :) I just saw an Ultimate Soldier carded NVA uniform set go for 70+ dollars. Are you kidding me? It's not even that cool. Isn't this country supposed to be in economic trouble or something? The world? Sure looks like someone has some extra cash to light their cigars with :)
Also as some of you know I've been a Medicom collector for years. I like the Japanese anime and live action hero stuff they make. Just last year figures were going for somewhere in the $150 to $200 range (which was already out of my price range) but now they seem to have jumped into the insane $400 to $500 range. I've seen people asking up to $2000 dollars for one. And what kills me is that people are buying them for that. Insane!
So my message to anyone who is spending that kind of cash on a 12" action figure (because the sellers wouldn't be asking that much if they couldn't get it) is: Put down the crack pipe buddy, you've got a problem :)
OK I'm done ranting now :)

- I ask myself if people have forgot that these are toys. It took me ages to save to get the SAS jeep I have. I wonder if I will ever be able to save up to get a white scout car at any reasonable price, I have got real cars for less. I've given up on getting a sherman (more than I pay for a months rent) which is more crazy, people selling them for these prices, people buying them for these prices or the fact that if all this is going on why someone can't come in and make a decent product for a fair price and survive since apparently there is so much demand for all of this stuff? (NT) -- Alan of the vagabonds, 10:21:37 01/15/13 Tue
- Reply (Click Inside) -- Tonjes, 10:21:47 01/15/13 Tue
- I think aprt od it is that the cost to produce these things is not what it used to be........everything has gone up. And these figure manufactureres are thinking......"well if company X can charge that much, why shoudln't we?" And the unltimate problem is.....people seem to be paying the ridiculous prices, so why wouldn't they sell it at those prices? (NT) -- Sgt. Horvath1, 11:46:49 01/15/13 Tue
- Congress must have a 1/6th scale ban on the books. Panic buying. (NT) -- Steve Wood, 12:05:26 01/15/13 Tue
- In reality, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay to acquire it. The 1/6th scale hobby is no exception. Companies like Soldier Story, Hot Toys, and the like have found they can charge $90 to $130 for an unlicensed figure, and folks gladly pay it. That's not to say quality, level of detail, and other aspects haven't improved. On the contrary, figures are more complex and detailed then every before. However, now the proliferation of licensed figures from box office blockbusters, the various companies have found they can charge $200 to $500. (NT) -- FireFox1435, 19:17:56 01/15/13 Tue
- do you think as people get more common abilitty to have home 3d printers maybe both prices will drop and the hobby might get a 2nd wind? (NT) -- alan of the vagabonds, 12:25:00 01/16/13 Wed
- There is a reason why some called this hobby, "Plastic Crack", more inside .... -- Gun Shy, 08:03:04 01/17/13 Thu
