Howdy fellas...... -- GungHo HOH, 19:58:14 08/25/09 Tue (conr-ddas3-209-34-1-2.consolidated.net/209.34.1.2)
Well good evening troopers...... It's been ages since I last posted here.....but I'm so glad to see GL's backyard is STILL alive and kicking!!!
I've been so busy and tied up with other hobbies and interests.... but yet here I come right back my old friend 1/6th scale. As usual my interests are still pretty grounded in the Vietnam era.......with a bit of WW2 thrown in for good measure.
I do have two 21stC Hummers that I'd like to toss up for trade. One is the really rare Target Exclusive Winter snow camoflauge version......and the other is the square backed woodland camo Hummer. Both have been slightly played with, and just stored in my room.
I'm really looking for a Kettenkrad....and also in need of a Vietnam Loach version Little bird helo.
I'm also very interested in Toy Soldier,DML,SideShow Toys and other Vietnam era gear or figures.
Shoot me an email and let me know what you might have.
THANKS!!!!

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Two cool sets for today, so let's get right to them!
First up for today is our old friend Pvt. Mel with part 3 and the finale of his cool WWII story "The Dream", continued from photo set 3880. I kind of hated to see this one end because Mel sure had a great location for this shoot and he taking a lot of terrific photos. I don't really want to give the ending away here, so I'll simply say if you've been following Mel's cool story, then be sure to check out this final episode. A great ending! Special thanks to Pvt. Mel for sending this cool short story in and sharing it with all of us. Sharp Salute!

And last but NOT least for today, our old friend El Paso Trooper is back. This time with some fantasy fighter villains he's been working on. The villains in this one are still a work in progress, so I'll guess we'll have to stay tuned to see the finished product, but they're looking really neat so far. I do believe our old friend Storm has been helping him out on these guys. The final photo though is his group shot of the heroes that will be taking on these villains. And they look to be completed. A very nice group of fantasy figures here, so if you're into that D & D type stuff, be sure to check these guys out. Special thanks to El Paso Trooper for sending these in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, I guess that does it for today. Still one more cool site update left in the week though, so be sure to come on back tomorrow regular time and check it out. Until then... take it lite men.
Sharp Salute!

- Pvt Mel, your scenes look very much like some of the old B&W war movies on TV when I was a kid. Has a similar intrigue, so keep it up. Great pics too. El Paso Trooper, you need to take your guys and go visit Storm's Tavern. I bet they would be right at home there. Fantastic looking figures Bud! (NT) -- Rich, 17:30:19 08/26/09 Wed

- Pvt. Mel, your story reminds me of something that Ray Bradbury would've written !! I love it !!! You keep the audience wondering what's going on with this guy, and you leave it up to them to come to a conclusion on their own.... that's very cool :) El Paso Trooper, I agree with Rich, about your fellas visiting Storm's Tavern !! I like the way you have your bad guys done -up, and those weapons are very, very cool ! Is that 'Ignite' chain mail ? It looks really good on your figures :) (NT) -- Hogie309 (HOH), 20:12:57 08/26/09 Wed

OK- I guess the Trojan Horse question is streaching it a bit. I based it on a comment made by a member of the Manhatten team. And yes, that U-234 contributed to the building of 'Little Boy' is debatable as well- circumstancial evidence points in that direction, but...
Let's try this- what nation had protocal to use indirect fire from BATTLE RIFLES with a forward observer during WWII?

Pivo got half of it right- the Uranium bomb design used on Hiroshima had not been tested as there was barely enough uranium to build the one... but they were sure of their numbers. The Plutonium design was tested... BUT THE ONLY OTHER WEAPON OF WAR NEVER TESTED BEFORE DEPLOYMENT AND USED ONLY ONCE.... (drum roll, please...) was the TROJAN HORSE!!!
NOW- where did the Manhatten project get a last minute critical boost to their supply of Uranium 235 that ALLOWED the little boy bomb to be built?

Ok troops, time for the last site update of the week and it's another of our weekly story episodes, so let's get right to it then.
Returning to wrap up yet another week for us here is our old friend Hogie309 with the next installment of his WWII Town of Marwencol saga, continued from photo set 3884. In this episode, we follow Medi-Jeep as he treks to a nearby town alone to get some much needed medicine. I don't really want to give anything here, so I'll just simply say, as always, more fantastic photos here from Hogie. He leaves us on a bit of a cliffhanger at the end though, so I definitely can't wait to see what happens next. For now though, be sure to check out this cool new episode from our old friend. Great stuff as always. Special thanks to Hogie309 for sending this cool new episode in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

- the poses are right out of the 91-B-10 handbook on field treatment and carry. I'm reminded of my days at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas- we even wore the same damn helmets (I hated those things!). Nice thing about a fireman's carry- you can huck the rascal FLAT on his kiester before he can react! Better yet, do a jump-roll onto your shoulders useing the kid as a cushion- that usually takes the fight out of them... (NT) -- Sgt. Howard, 20:16:05 08/20/09 Thu
- once again, great stuff hogie. reminds me of when i left my weapon with my aidbag while moving a casualty on a training lane at fort sam. i found it 10 minutes later at the end of the lane broken down and strewn about everywhere. not only did i have to find the peices, but i did 50 pushups for every peice before i could leave. that taught me to always, always, always have a sling, even if you gotta make your own. Ok troops, time to get on a bus and take another field trip today to another awesome military museum. So let's move out then!
Up for today is a cool new scrapbook page submission sent in by our old friend Ilaf. It seems like he recently took a trip to a cool Military Vehicle Museum up in Lexington, Nebraska. And he took a bunch of photos of everything to share with us. Actually, two cargo ships of photos :) Easily over 100 pictures here for sure. All kinds of great looking vehicles on display from WWII to modern era. The usual stuff and the not so usual. Ilaf took some great photos of everything too. These will be perfect reference photos for all you vehicle scratchbuilders or customizers out there. It looks like Ilaf had pretty good access to all the vehicles and even got interior shots of some of the larger ones. Man, I would have really liked to see all these up close and personal like this. Everything looks to be nicely restored as well. So most of the stuff looks like it just rolled off the factory floor. There was even a few weapons and such on display as well. I have to say this is a must see museum if you're ever down around those parts. I know if I ever make it down that way, it will be first on my list. So definitely be sure to go check out this cool new scrapbook submission and take the virtual tour with our old friend Ilaf. Special thanks to Ilaf for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Only one set for today, but it's another of our continuing photo story episodes. So let's get right to it!
Returning for today is fellow trooper Tonjes with part 2 of his strange new photo story entitled "The Land of Dwarves", continued from photo set 3864. If you guys remember from the last episode, we met two characters who were looking for some lost mine. In this episode, we pick up with them back in their jeep as they run across a stranger standing in a field. I don't want to give any of the story line away here, but more mysteries in this one. I'm definitely hooked and I can't wait to see how Tonjes unfolds this story. So if you've waiting for the next episode of "The Land of Dwarves" like I have, then be sure to check this new episode out. Special thanks to Tonjes for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Ok troops, time for the first site update of the week. And we'll start off with one of our continuing photo story episodes. So let's get right to it then.
Up to start off this week is our old friend Irish13 with the next cool episode of his continuing modern era photo story, The Gun Point, continued from photo set 3877. If you guys remember from the last episode, there was a single Brit who bailed on his team and then we find out he was actually going to meet up with another team. In this episode, we see that meeting, however the "first team" is out there watching their every move. Another intriguing episode here from Irish, I definitely can't wait to see the story unfold more in future episodes. So far it's moving along pretty darn cool in my opinion. So if you've been following this one like I have, definitely be sure to check out this terrific new episode of The Gun Point. Special thanks to Irish13 for sending this new one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

If anyone is interested, I could make a 1:6 scale Plains Indian Tepee (tipi). It can be made out of heavy, canvas-like material. You can paint your own designs on it with acrylic paints. The standard tipi is a scale 15 foot diameter and height. The lodge poles would be 6-8 inches longer. With luck I'll have pictures to show in the near future.
The price is negotiable.
CK2, out.

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Two cool Vietnam era submissions today, so let's get right to them!
First up, our old friend Buzz is back with a cool little sample teaser photo set featuring some of the characters he'll be using in an upcoming Vietnam era photo story. Some very sharp looking 'Nam troops in this one. You know me, I'm always up for a great Vietnam photo shoot and a Vietnam story, all the better. I can't wait to see what Buzz does with this one in the future. I like all his characters that he introduces in this one. So I'm sure it will be very cool. For now though, be sure to check out our old friend's newest project. Special thanks to Buzz for sending this cool new set in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!
CLICK HERE to jump to that page.
And last but NOT least for today, fellow trooper Soldier B sends us in a cool customizing tip for the tips page, Make your own 1/6th scale Vietnam era Army field manual. He's included large .jpg files of the front and back covers as well as the spine. You can actually download these yourselves and hook them together in some kind of program you have, scale it down and print it out. Or if you happen to have a newer version of Microsoft word, you can simply just download the word doc that Soldier B has supplied and just print it out. The file prints out six field manual covers with the back, front and side all hooked together, so all you would need to do is cut it out, fold it over and slap some blank pages in it. Awesome! It's listed under the gear section on the tips page, for future reference. Special thanks to Soldier B for sending this cool 1/6th item in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, I guess that does it for today. Still one more cool site update left in the week though, so be sure to come on back and check it out. So until then... take it lite men.
Sharp Salute!

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Two sharp sets for today, so let's get right to them both.
First up for today, our old friend Zman is back with more of his cool kitbashed/ customized figure projects. Featured in this one is a terrific SEAL diver, modern era from the Kuwait period, the second is another SEAL from Beruit in the early '80s, and the final guy is a sharp looking WWII FJ paratrooper. Once again a tough choice here for me to pick my favorite, I think I'm a little leaning toward that first SEAL though, with the boogie board. All of them are equally as sharp though. Like always, some terrific projects here from our old buddy. Lots of great details and such all over. So definitely be sure to check these out. Special thanks to Zman for sending in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

And last but NOT least for today, friend and fellow trooper Cbtengr is back with another cool submission for us. Featured here is a little mini diorama featuring a couple of his WWII Russians. He started off with the Power Team blown building front, put two of them together and made bases for them (which he has done an awesome job on). Through one hole in the wall is a Russian sniper, he's used the old 21st Russian soldier here. In the second window, the Hasbro Russian officer from the Indiana Jones series is luring out the enemy with a helmet on a stick. Very cool stuff here again from Cbtengr, you won't want to miss it! Special thanks to Cbtengr for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, I guess that does it for today. Without a doubt, more cool stuff to see tomorrow, so be sure to come on back regular time and check it out. So until then... take it lite men.

- cool stuff from both of you, Zman I don't remember seeing the pouches around the leg before, your idea or have you seen that somewhere before? Cbtengr I like the Russians, thats the first time I've seen the Indy one, they never made it to my area (NT) --

- Zman, I love the FJ jumping out of the door of the plane. The way you made him look like he's in mid air, is very realistic indeed !! Cbtengr, I LOVe that curtain in the window !! What is it made from ? I also love the way you have the Russian officer waving the helmet on a stick in front of the window, to lure fire from the enemy, so his friend can pick them off !! Those are some very cool looking war-torn buildings, and very sharp looking figures too !! :) (NT) -- Hogie309 (HOH), 19:44:08 08/18/09 Tue

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Only one set today, but a lot of cool figures in it and a great one for all you ancient warrior fans out there. So let's get right to it!
Returning once again is our old friend Storm with another batch of his cool ancient warriors. This time we move a little away from the fantasy stuff into historic ancient warriors. Included in this set are an awesome Frankish warrior (my personal favorite), a Russian Goth, a Boyar Nobleman, a Viking, two cool Celts and a German Knight Circa 1250 AD. Some of you fantasy net guys might have already seen these, but for those of you who haven't, you won't want to miss them! Storm does some fantastic work in this ancient warriors vein and these guys are no exception to that. Simply fantastic, each and every one of them! So be sure to check them out! Special thanks to Storm for sending all these cool projects in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

OT - Help with model trains -- Sgt.Schultz, 18:15:19 08/16/09 Sun (NoHost/76.210.96.78)
Sorry GL for the wildly off topic post, but the guys here tend to be pretty knowledgeable about hobby stuff.
So out of the blue, my girlfriend decided that she wants to build a model of a caboose. Not a powered, electric train, but a static model. And when an attractive girl wants to play with toys too, you don't say no!
Several years ago, I recall Monogram releasing static models of steam locomotives, and that's the kind of thing I'm looking for. Not being familiar with the manufacturers in the model RR world, I don't know enough when searching. Any help would be appreciated.

- Dig on these, nice "kits" ... -- Gun Shy, 21:59:41 08/16/09 Sun
- Quite right Sgt, although the scale isn't that important, as the car will not be integrated into an existing layout, I think HO is probably the way to go. Thanks for the links Gunshy, those wooden kits are beautiful, but out of my GF's league. I was thinking plastic kits to lessen the damage in the event construction frustration sets in. (NT) -- Sgt.Schultz, 00:15:08 08/17/09 Mon
- Schultzie, I think you are right about sticking with HO much as SGT Howard suggested picking a scale. Plastic would be the way to go. A little more inside. -- Rich, 01:44:15 08/17/09 Mon
- To me, it all depends on what you want for overall size. 'HO' scale is 1/87, 'O' scale is 1/48, 'G' scale can be anywhere from 1/20 to 1/32. An HO scale caboose will only be about 6 inches long....not very big if you want to display it in a big area. (NT) -- Sgt. Horvath 1, 12:16:01 08/17/09 Mon
- If you're looking for a biuld it yourself plastic model kit, you may have better luck with "O" scale. (NT) -- Steve Wood, 04:49:10 08/18/09 Tue
- Yes, the majority of HO scale now comes as RTR (ready to run) assembled cars. Kits in HO are becoming more rare, but can still be found. In fact, depending on what kind of caboose you want (Old style; wood or steel sides, modern, etc..), I may be able to help. I work at a hobby shop P/T and we stock some old kits. Let me know if you're interested. (NT) -- Sgt. Horvath 1, 07:53:38 08/18/09 Tue
