- some good... some REALLY frustrating stuff...UURRGH!!! -- dewback matt, 19:23:20 05/17/13 Fri (adsl-76-200-131-94.dsl.pltn13.sbcglobal.net/76.200.131.94)
Well.. the BTR-80 sits until I can afford the rest of the tires.. and then I am trying to make production parts for the 21st century little bird (beak glass noses) and Blue Thunder front nose sections. I got to try and vacuum form them at my friends studio and had to fill with expanding foam to support. WELL THAT SCREWED UP SOME THINGS! Then the beak got too hot and bubbled my paint and lifted some resin underneath... sooooo this is a mess right now and just re-fixing ALL surfaces and re-resining the beak to see if it will work. Just frustrating and trying to do too much in little time for the FAMCON show... shouldn't be this hard to do and I am trying to hard. I am going to go lay down now and let the resin dry in my hair and arms...

OK troops, time for the last site update of the week. Just a little small one today but pretty darn cool in my opinion, so let's get right to it!
Wrapping up this week for us is our old friend Dewback Matt with a small update on his BTR project. If you guys recall on the board here about a week or so ago him talking about vacuum forming parts for his BTR. I believe he mentioned these were hubcaps. Well here are a couple photos of those vacuum formed pieces. I can't wait to see these all painted up and on his BTR. It's definitely a cool way to mass produce parts though, so be sure to go take a peek at this one! Special thanks to Dewback Matt for sending this cool update in and sharing it wtih us. Sharp Salute!

Up for today is our old friend Hogie309. He's back with a new beginning to his Marwencol saga. Forget everything that's happened in the past, this is now again - Day 1. And I have to say he's starting it off with more fantastic shots. I don't really want to give anything away, so you should probably just go check this one out. Must see stuff here! I'm glad to see Hogie back in top form and Marwencol with a fresh new beginning! Special thanks to Hogie309 for sending this cool new episode in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

OK troops, time for the first site update of the week. So let's not waste anymore time and get right to it!
Up to start off this week for us is our old friend Zman with another cool project. This time, Zman's 1/6th take on the SAS siege on the Iranian Embassy in London: Operation Nimrod. Two cool SAS figures in this shoot along with a really sharp mini-dio setup of the side of the Embassy building and the SAS attempting to enter through a window. I've seen footage from this operation and I thought Zman did an excellent job of capturing it in 1/6th without a doubt. So definitely be sure to check this one out. More great stuff here from our old friend! Special thanks to Zman for sending this cool shoot in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

- OT Personal update -- Sgt. Howard, 20:18:44 05/08/13 Wed (NoHost/64.139.113.76)
on the 16th, 17th and 18th of this month, I will be at the Seattle VA center for further angioplasty- seems I've clogged up a few more arteries in spite of medication and dietary control. I am assured that my prospects are good and that I should not worry. Stress seems to be the major factor- I work in surgery, Axis Annie has Parkinsons (not yet under control), and I cannot live at home when I am on call due to distance. My cardio functions are slighty higher than disability threshold according to the new numbers, and I cannot afford civilian insurance for Annie and the boys- it would be over half my paycheck. My 1/6 scale stuff has been packed since 2011. That has maintained my sanity for the longest time, but now I am never at home long enough to play with them unless I take a week off- and I cannot do that too often as I am one of two techs.
My home is a disaster as Annie can barely manage anything now, and the 14 yo is in charge in my absence. He is a lazy rascal who resents the burden placed on him, yet he is the oldest fully functional individual on the property. I get winded walking up the driveway... I used to do blacksmithing.
I am almost hopeing that the Doctors write me off as disabled so I can take care of my wife and home, even though I know that SSDI will be a MAJOR loss of pay.
... but other than THAT Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
the Old (and disgruntled) Sgt.

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. A really neat one for all you wild west fans. So let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Zman. This time with his cool wild west stagecoach project and some of his western bad guys. No under carriage on the stage yet but man it's awesome anyway. Looks like it's in the service of Well Fargo. A sharp looking driver and armed guard too. Both of the masked bandits are cool as well. Love their gunbelts! So if you're a wild west fan I think this is must see stuff for you :) That's one thing I have none of in my 1/6th collection, well except for my old Marx Johnny West figure. I think I need some cowboys now, thanks to Zman ;) Great work again from our old friend. Don't miss it. Sharp Salute!

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Just a small one today but very cool in my opinion. So let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Tank Mechanic with part 4 of his 21st Prototype Mech restoration project. This time with 4 "mock up" shots of it on a diorama base with it's crew in a little scene. Wow with the figures all around this MECH you can really get a great feel for how big this thing is. Again I must say....what a freaking shame 21st never got to produce this. It would have been costly considering it's size but boy would it have been cool to own. Imagine the awesome scenes you could do with your own mech ;) Anyway.... be sure to go take a peek at this new update from our old friend. Must see stuff in my opinion. my friend Fon Davis ( and movie effects wizard) has a simple video about vacuum forming and it inspired me to get my crap together and do it. I created this little former in about 2 hours and used it this morning with great success for the BTR hubcaps. I formed all 8 from a "buck" that I made and had a few failures but then got it right and went to town from there. Here is a link to Fon's video as I have asked this man many a question about certain things.. enjoy and learn! This is a great first step to knowing about 3D stuff, undercuts and molding too!

I am greatly anticipating seeing this track geared and crewed up. Astounding. Pointman - - do you see what you started!?!?! (NT) -- Chairborne, HoH, 08:06:57 05/02/13 Thu

Okay, when I first saw it in the case, I decided to switch to it instead of the Flash Gordon figure I was really planning on buying instead.
4 pairs of hands, 2 pairs of booted feet, full of gear and with a cool looking headsculpt and paintop, Prometheus
SideShow body, loads of patches, and "more realistic" forearms arms peeking out of rolled back sleeves, at a special "No Box but New and Complete price", I figured how could I go wrong....(rest of the review with photos continued in reply)

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Again, only a small one but really darn cool in my opinion, so let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Zman with another one of his cool figure and mini-setup photo shoots. This time, some modern Marine Recon CQB training. Two cool, customized figures in this one in some cool poses and setups from ol' Zman for sure. More great work so definitely don't miss this one! Special thanks to Zman for sending these cool shots in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Only a small to medium size one this time, but I thought it was pretty darn cool. So let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Mikey, this time with a cool custom Dwarven war hammer for his fantasy figures that he calls "Ironhand". I'm not sure how many of you guys here are into the fantasy Dungeons & Dragons type stuff, but I don't think it really matters, this is just a really cool idea here from Mikey and he pulled it off really well too! In these photos he has it posed with his Toybiz Gimli figure, his custom Dwarf mini Blackbeard figure and what I do believe is the Hot Toys Thor. Definitely be sure to go take a peek at it. Really creative idea here and like I said, Mikey did a really terrific job! Special thanks to Mikey for sending this cool project in and sharing it with us. Sharp salute!

OK troops, time for the first site update of the week. A couple small ones to start off with, but both very sharp in my opinion, so let's get right to them!
First up for today our old friend Tank Mechanic is back with the next update on that prototype 21st Battle mech project. This time he's working on the weapons pod and has put together a whole bunch of different interchangeable weapons that it can hold, including Gatlin gun, flamethrower and several more. There's no mech in this set just the weapons pod so you can see how it connects to that part, but boy I bet it's all going to look really cool actually on the mech. More great work from our old friend, so be sure to check this one out! Special thanks to Tank Mechanic for sending this cool update in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

And last but not least for today, our old friend Larry T is back with another single shot for us. Just a little setup entitled "Jeep Trouble" featuring some of his WWII Americans and their jeep. No background or anything on this one, just a little setup on a shelf it looks like, but he's really done a great job on this one. A cool little setup for sure. So definitely be sure to go take a peek at it. He's got some cool looking WWII GIs in this one. Special thanks to Larry T for sending this cool shot in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

OK troops, time for the last site update of the week. Only two really small ones to wrap it up with, but both very cool in my opinion, so let's get right to it!
First up for today, our old friend Dewback Matt is back with the next update on his awesome BTR vehicle project. This time he's adding the wheels. Just a couple photos of it this time, but boy - with wheels on it, it looks ten times cooler than it already did, if that's possible! Like I told our old friend, I'm not an expert on the BTR's wheels, but they look great to me, what do you guys think? Man oh man, the BTR sure is looking sweet though. So definitely don't miss these couple new update photos on it. Special thanks to Dewback Matt for sending this cool update in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

And last but not least for today, our old friend Larry T is back with a single shot featuring his American WWII General and a Russian advisor looking over a map of Germany. Some really cool looking figures and a great little diorama setup. Terrific work here from Larry again, so be sure to go take a peek at it! Special thanks to Larry T for sending in this cool photos and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Have a great weekend guys!

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. So let's get right to it!
Up for today is our old friend Pvt. Mel. He's back with the next update on his cool German halftrack project. He's still not completely finished, he said he had a few more things to add to the outside, but he decided to take a few photos of it in its present form and send them in. Of course, he added some troops to it in this one and threw it into one of his dioramas for some extra coolness! I have to say in my opinion, Mel's done a really fine job on this project. So definitely be sure to check out his progress so far. You won't want to miss this one. Some great shots of it here! Special thanks to Pvt. Mel for sending this cool new update in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

- What hath Pointman wrought? Beauty, eh? The first image had me off balance. When it first came up, I thought it was a reference photo for comparison. Mel, this is indeed a joy to behold. You asked us to not look too closely at some of your detail work, but those two shots through the rear access door to view the driving compartment show me that you nailed it with your instrument panel and radio. Overall, the results of the combined efforts of a technician and an artist greatly exceed what might have been achieved by either individually. And you say that it is not yet complete? - Thanks for the kind words. It is a fun first time project and will come in handy in future photo shoots. Thanks again. (NT) -- pvtmel, 13:53:45 04/26/13 Fri

OK troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. So let's get right to it!
Up for today, our old friend Graeylin is back; this time with a cool handmade watch tower for his troops. I'm assuming this is for his Japanese troops considering the watch tower has a bamboo thatched roof on it. He does some really nice work here and didn't even put a lot of cash into it. A perfect project for all those "on a budget" builders like myself. This thing is huge too. Graeylin took a bunch of shots of it outside so you can see what it looks like up against a natural background and then one shot of it indoors alongside his troops on display so you can get a feel for how big it is as compared to a figure. I think he did a great job on this, so definitely don't miss taking a peek at it. Special thanks to Grayelin for sending this cool project in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!
