Been away for some time, but recently decided to do a new 1:6 project: Tank Dempsey from the Shi No Numa level of Call of Duty, World at War.
I had most of the pieces I needed or this project in my spare parts bin, but as I collect mainly modern stuff, I'm not sure how to outfit this figure.
In the game, it's a Marine Recon force in the Pacific, wearing some duck hunter camo, boots with gaiters, and carrying a variety of weapons.
I'm looking for how a typical Marine would have been outfitted- what belt, canteen, knife etc. I have plenty of weapons but may be missing the correct canteens, etc.
And I'm making a diorama to display the figure in (he looks good so far, but I want to make him perfect). It's a wood hut, the corner, and will have a Jap zombie clawing through the window.

Ok troops, time for the last site update of the week. A little something different to wrap this week up with. We're going to take a little virtual field trip. So everybody hop on the bus!
Wrapping up this week is our old friend Cbtengr. It seems like he recently visited the 1st Infantry division and cavalry museum in Fort Riley, Kansas. Wow, another cool museum to visit if you're ever in those parts. A lot of 1/1 scale vehicles, uniforms, weaponry and much more. I thought it was pretty cool seeing the actual map used by one of the troops at Remagen. A lot of neat things like that to see in this museum. I sure am glad our old friend took some photos so we could take the virtual tour with him. You definitely won't want to miss this cool new scrapbook page addition. Special thanks to Cbtengr for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, I guess that wraps up this week. I do believe I have something from Hogie to start off next week with, so be sure to come on back Sunday night/ Monday morning when we'll get this whole thing started up again. Until then... take it lite men.
Have a great weekend guys!

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Only one set today, but it's another one of our continuing photo stories, so let's get right to it then!
Returning for today is our old friend Irish13 with part 2 of his modern era photo story "The GunPoint", continued from photo set 3836. If you guys remember last time, we met the two British operatives and the bad mouthed Russian and their Middle eastern contact. They were all getting ready for their mission while awaiting the two American operatives. Well, in this episode, they show up. Definitely a nice start to a cool new story from our old friend. I'll be interested to see where he goes with this one. So far though, I like all the characters, even though we haven't dug into the plot quite yet, but I'm sure that will come. So if you've been waiting for the second part of The GunPoint like I have, then definitely be sure to check this cool part 2 out. Special thanks to Irish13 for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

I recently put up more posts over at the Collector's Corner forum. I picked up some more Luchador's from AZTECA. Now you do not have to know about Mexican wrestling aka Lucha Libre, but to see the customs that were made for AZTECA. The stitching is really top notch here. I wish the guy did more Nacho Libre uni's...AZTECA has one and it would be even cooler on a short chubby body. Plus I also put up some of the Weekend of Heroe's show pics (first here on GL's board)
I know we all love sending our TUS themed pics to GL's, but if any of you would like to post over on The Collector's Corner...by all means PLEASE DO. I would love to see pics of your stuff. any and all makers, customs, kitbashes, whatever floats your boat. pop in and take a look at some of the post (ok so there mostly One Shot LOL!)but I wanna see some pics...even if GL has posted them here already, no biggie...upload them to the Collector's Corner as well. Come on troops...who's going to step up and show One Shot whatcha got? pics of your collection? your dio's? your kitbashes, your get togethers (CK2) bring it on troops! let's here from you. topics on your mind...post them all.

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Two sharp sets for today, so let's get right to them!
First up, our old friend One Shot returns with a few pictures of the 21st HALO Jumper set. Pretty much just stock, except he's swapped out the 21st parachute pack for the Hot Toys version. A very cool looking figure here and of course, you all know One Shot can take some cool photos. Here are a few pics of him posing for the camera, so no sky diving stuff. Actually, that question I asked on the board the other day about the lear jet SWAT team grafitti was after I viewed these photos from One Shot after he sent them in the other day. Definitely a cool set from 21st and with the HT pack, it's even cooler. So be sure to check this one out! Special thanks to One Shot for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

And last but NOT least for today, fellow trooper Jordi from Barcelona, Spain is back. I've been wondering when Jordi was going to get us some new pics in. This set features his vintage Geyperman figure doing a little sightseeing in the city of Barcelona with his lady. Lots of cool sights to see in Barcelona, it sure would be cool to visit there one day and check it out in person. Ol' Geyperman even takes in a bull fight. And you'll never guess who the matadors are, (ok, maybe you will :) Once again some very unique and cool photos from our old friend Jordi, so definitely be sure to take a peek at them. Special thanks to Jordi for sending this cool new set in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Back to regular schedule for today. Only one set today, but it's very cool for all you fantasy / ancient warrior fighter fans. Plenty of pics in it too, so let's get right to them!
Up for today is our old friend Storm. He returns with more of those great fantasy fighters of his. Some of you fantasy net guys might have seen these already, but for those of you who didn't, you're in for a treat if you like that ancient warrior thing. Here we get four of Storm's cool "Northmen" viking types. Once again, Storm has done some amazing detailing on all these guys. Given all of them names too and taken some awesome photos of all four. As always, some impressive stuff here from our old friend. Someone needs to give ol' Storm a job designing some 1/6th fantasy figures, so all us poor unfortunates who can't do this stuff on our own would get a chance to own some of these great looking figures he does. Like I said though, if you're a fan of the Dungeons and Dragons type stuff or ancient warriors, this is definitely must see stuff here. So be sure to check it out! Special thanks to Storm for sending these in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

Ok troops, time for the first site update of the week. And you know what that means, the results of our latest Unofficial Fan page photo contest.
Actually, we had a pretty darn good turnout for this one. You guys had me worried late into the week, but a lot of entries showed up toward the end and I thought each and every one of them was totally awesome. Not a single one I wouldn't want to snatch up and put in my own collection, that's for sure. Unfortunately, there can only be three winners and I have to say the judges had a tough job on their hands with this one. However, they did manage to bring it down to three and I tallied up the votes myself and here are the results. So let's get right to those winners then.
First place goes to Graeylin with his fantastic Goumier soldier in Italy. A super impressive figure here and I love how he customized the old 21st desert sniper headsculpt for this project. I'm sure you guys will be impressed with his entry here. Definitely deserving of his first place victory and his $50 credit. Congratulations Graeylin, very nice work!
Second place goes to fellow trooper Hogie309 with his cool Scottish Highland Division soldier. A very cool figure, that's for sure and totally deserving of its second place victory and his $30 credit. Congratulations Hogie, great job!
And finally, third place goes to fellow trooper Fubar for his totally cool WWII British Para. This guy has a lot of custom stuff on him and even a very cool completely repainted Dragon headsculpt. Totally deserving of his third place victory and $20 credit, without a doubt. Congratulations Fubar, very cool!
Well guys, I guess that's it. I feel like I need to send a special thanks to everyone who entered this contest though, all the entries were terrific. I'm sure all of you will have your own personal favorites, but these are the guys who happened to woo the judges this time. I sure wish we had prizes for everyone, that's for sure. I loved each and every one of them. Thanks to all you guys for making this a super cool contest. Much appreciated!
And of course, last but not least, I want to thank the judges for taking on this tough mission and send a very special thanks to our contest sponsor Grand Sport. As always, he's far too good to us. Sharp Salute!
All the winners will be contacted by GrandSport in the near future with your prize details.

Well guys, I guess that wraps up another Unofficial Fan page contest. It sure was mighty impressive in my opinion. I guess we'll be back tomorrow with regular scheduled updates. So until then... take it lite men.

I must confess I am now a "24" addict. Never really watched the show when it started, but've been renting the videos now for the past two months and IT ROCKS!! At any rate, I've decided to put together a CTU assaulter, and I believe I have pretty much everything I need (21st SWAT gear/weapons/helmet/boots/radio) except for one very important thing - blue BDU's like the ones from the SWAT Team Leader carded or boxed set. If anyone has a set of these for trade or sale, give me a holler. Next project - Jack Bauer bash!

a local VFW chapter has heard about my skills with firearms, and has retained my services- I am currently doing full quartermasters on TWO M-1 GARAND rifles that they use in drill & ceremony! Seems they stuff the wrong blanks in these bad boys (they ARE blank fitted) and jacked the action a bit- I'm to tune them back to function if it can be done.
Would anyone care for a pictorial on field-strip & maitanance on the mother of all battle rifles?
... just thought I'd ask...

Ok troops, since the board seems to be FINALLY back online I guess it's time for the last site update of the week. So let's not waste anymore time and get right to it.
Back again to wrap up another week for us is our old friend Hogie309 with the second part of his latest Marwencol episode "The New and Fantastic Motorcycle". I don't want to give any of the storyline away here so I'll just simply say the Marwencol women take the main role in this one. Of course some of the boys show up too but they're just bystanders in this one. As always more outstanding 1/6 set ups and photography from ol' Hogie. Never fails to impress that's for sure. So ok I'll shut up now so we can get to those pics of Hogie's :) I know I have to get my daily fix :) Special thanks to Hogie309 for sending another very cool Marwencol episode in and keeping us highly entertained. Sharp salute!

Hey guys I was just wondering if any of you know what the graffiti on the back of the 21st Special Forces HALO jumpers helmet "Lear Jet SWAT Team" refers to? I tried to do a few searches but didn't come up with anything. Just curious. Not really familiar with HALO jumpers in general and I was wondering is it was some sort of slogan, in joke or what.
Anyone have a clue?
[ Post a Reply to this Message ][Edit]

- I would say its a slogan for a HALO team. I think alot of those special units give themselfes nicknames, just my thought (NT) -- zman, 10:37:35 06/25/09 Thu
- I took it as an inside joke or slogan too. When I got to Bragg back in the mid '70s Delta Force was still being created and Operation Blue Light was the interim team for such matters. They had an excellent artists who drew some fantastic posters. One had a swarm of HALO droping into a flight of Mig 25s. The closest figure in the pic clearly had a devise strapped to his helmet that clearly read "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" with the clacker wire wound down his arm to his hand. You had to be there. The Christmas SEAL was pretty funny too. (NT) -- Rich, 16:20:51 06/25/09 Thu
- Ive seen that Rich , it was a claymore mine taped to his helmet. (NT) -- MattLocke, 16:35:56 06/25/09 Thu
- I've wondered about that myself. I think it to be what used to be refered to as "nose art". Just some graffiti indicating that the helmet's owner was "High Speed, Low Drag". (NT) -- hot LZ, 16:51:33 06/25/09 Thu
- GL, it refers to the opening line of Warren Zevon's song, "Jungle Work". See inside for link: -- Scarecrow (HOH), 17:04:58 06/25/09 Thu

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Two sharp sets today, so let's get right to them!
First up today, our old friend Pvt. Mel is back. It looks like he's really getting into that weathering stuff now that he did that PAK project. This time, we get to see his newly weathered 21st German motorcycle and sidecar. I have to say he's really done it up. All I can that it's lacking is maybe a tad bit of rust and a bit of dirt :) It sure looks 100 percent better than the original out of the box, that's for sure, all weathered up like this. Here we get several shots of it out in front of his church posing alongside his cool kitbashed German motorcycle rider. Another terrific project here from Mel that you definitely won't want to miss. Special thanks to Pvt. Mel for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

And last but NOT least for today, we have a new recruit from the UK, fellow trooper Sabre. Actually he's been a lurker for some time now, but finally decided to go ahead and send some photos in. It seems like they use 1/6th figures and such to train their Army cadets in various tasks. Here are a few of the models (1/6th stuff) that they use. I think it's pretty darn cool how they use 1/6th stuff for some 1/1 training. A lot of neat stuff in this set, so definitely be sure to check it out! Hopefully we'll see more from Sabre in the future. Special thanks to Sabre for sending these in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!

Well guys, more cool stuff on the way for tomorrow of course, so be sure to come on back then and check out what our fellow men have in store for us. Until then... take it lite men.

All of you must know by now that Ed McMahon died this morning. A WWII Marine, fighter pilot instructor who was also called back for the Korean War. We also Lost Burt Bank. I've mentioned him here before after hearing a couple of radio interviews with him. Burt was a survivior of Camp Cabanatuan. He was even mentioned in the book "Ghost Soldiers" which was also released in paper back but with the title changed to "The Great Raid" to parallel with the movie. Burt was in one or two of the photographs in the book as well. Burt graduated the University of Alabama's law school in 1940 and still went into the service and on to the Pacific before the war. He helped open a couple of radio and one TV station in the Birmingham area. Listening to him tell his stories well before the movie came out, but after I had read the book, almost brought tears. Those heros went through a helluva a lot to serve this country.

Ok troops, time for another cool site update from our fellow men in the field. Only one set today, but it's another of our continuing photo story episodes, so let's get right to it!
Returning for today is our old friend Irish13 with part 42 of his continuing WWII OSS saga, starring Lt. Cal Lee, continued from photo set 3808. As you guys who have been following this will remember from the last episode, some MPs showed up to straighten ol' Cal out. In this episode, it looks like they're going to take the heavy handed approach. So far, Cal is taking it like a loyal soldier though. I wonder how long that will last :) Another cool photo set here from Irish here with lots of great photos. So if you've been following this one like I have, then definitely be sure to check out this terrific new episode. Special thanks to Irish13 for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

Ok troops, time for the first site update of the week. We start off with two cool sets today, so let's get right to them!
First up for today, our old friend Death Angel is back. I'm sure a lot of you guys remember that cool Humvee he customized for that modeling contest. Well he found a few photos that he took while he was building it and decided to send them in. So here we get a few shots of that cool Humvee in some of the stages as he was building it. It sure was an awesome project after he finished it and I'm glad he sent some shots in of the work in progress, interesting to see some of the work that was under that paint when he was finished. So be sure to check this one out! Special thanks to Death Angel for sending this one in and sharing it with us. Sharp Salute!

And last but NOT least for today, our old friend Checkmate King 2 is back with some more cool photos for us to check out. It looks like he decided to break out his Native American Indians and get some more great shots of them outside. Definitely some awesome looking Indians, I've always been a big fan of them and CK2 has taken some terrific outdoor photos of them here. Each of them are so cool, I just really couldn't pick my favorite. There's even a couple bonus shots, one of his Mountain Man and another of the Lone Ranger. I'm glad he broke out the Lone Ranger again, it was cool to see an outdoor photo of him. So be sure to check these new photos out. Special thanks to CK2 for sending these in and sharing them with us. Sharp Salute!
