1. British 72nd anti-tank soldiers

2. Tricky question here and the answer is subject to interpretation. The first foreign soil that U.S. forces set foot on during WWII was actually an assembly function in Newfoundland and then the establishment of an airfield in Reykjavik Iceland (TF 19 and the 1st Marine Provisional BDE) but this was a presidential occupation order but before the declaration of war. I'll leave the Philippines out of this since we were there already, which really brings us to Operation Torch. The US hit both Casablanca and Oran. Oran had the first parachute assault from 2-509, and 1ID came from the sea. The 2-509 was the first in North Africa, but (and its a big but) they (both 2-509 & 1ID) left England for their assault. So it could be Iceland, England, or Algeria.

3. He got em from a Brit POW.
