Yes thats right, some good might come from the fact that Tony Brown has left the Dragons. He was a Newport man through and through, he didnt want Ebbw Vale or Newbridge, he wanted Newport. And IMO he got what he wanted. All games played at NEWPORT, he put NEWPORT in the name, most supporters came from NEWPORT, but now he has gone. I can see this as being the start of something big for the valleys. The Dragons need support off the WRU, and if they dont get it i can see them going down. The Dragons can no longer afford to challenge the WRU, they dont have the power, or the money. If the WRU plays their cards right, they could make the Dragons become more regional. If the Dragons want the funding as as a REGIONAL side they will have to make more effort to include the rest of Gwent. By this i mean taking Newport out of the name, playing games at PPP, Newbridge and Eugene. As somebody said before, there is plenty of space on the old Steelworks grounds to build a bigger ground, surely it wouldnt cost that much and it would benefit Welsh rugby in the long run. Its not too late to turn it around, we are still only 2 seasons in to the regional setup. I can see this being the end of the Newport Dragons and the start of the GWENT Dragons.

All i can say is that we'll just have to wait and see. What we need to remember here is that Brown isn't pulling out of the Dragons, he's simply taking a back seat, which means the "region" will have to run on a tighter budget. We must remember that Brown aside, the board there is still anti Gwent. We'll have to wait till the summer before we know for sure i guess. LOL, this definitely won't be the end of regional rugby, that's ridiculous! Too much effort and money has been invested into this new structure and it's impossible to go back to club rugby! If only it had been done properly from the start it could have been really successful. The question is, has too much damage been done already to save it from a lingering death? - No regions within 3 years is my guess. If it goes to central contracts, the money goes down very steeply for the players. Marinos has already said that the days of the Dragons signing imports are now gone. They can't afford their coach and look set to lose Monty now that he's seen the money is drying up for him.
