Citro�n sold a car called the M�hari which was jeep
like vehicle based on the Dyane 6 chassis with a 2CV engine.
M�hari's are very light, only about 1300 lbs. so they
go quite well in off-road conditions despite being only front
drive. They were used by the French army and 12 right-hand
drive M�hari's were built for the Irish army. A handful
were imported into the U.S. in 1970 because they were classified as a truck and subject to less stringent emissions
and safety requirements than passenger cars were.
You would probably have a much easier time finding a M�hari than the twin motor Sahara of which only 694 were built between 1960 and 1971. A standard 2CV
could be modified into a Sahara by mounting a 2CV
drivetrain into the rear of it but it would take some fabricating to do it. It's probably been done before, checking with the various 2CV clubs in Europe to see if it
has indeed been done would be the place to start.
