  Now for the Update:
  
  Yesterday one of the more "phariseeical" members of my church came to deliver a message because I've been online playing catchup (remember the several thousand e-mails). He gave me a 45 min. lecture on God's will for my life, being "indigent", and the "prosperity gospel". Ya'know, holding my tounge during that lecture was about the most trying thing of the last two weeks.
  
  Several hours later, some other men from the church arrived and said, "Gee, this shouldn't be hard to fix. If you can afford the supplies, we'll be glad to supply the labor. If not, we'll still fix it."
  
  Now, I wonder... which one gives Christians a good reputation?
  
  God forgive us, and me most of all.

  Yes Its me! I am still alive. Just been super busy. I've been to Nebraska at the end of June for a family reunion. It was very humid there. I like my dry heat in NM. At least it had hills. We drove thru Kansas and I was so bored. No offense to anyone from Kansas. Even my Desert here has hills and mountains to it. Oh well I survived. Before this trip my 82 year old father has carple tunnel surgery on his left wrist and he just has surgery on his left elbow. So I have been taking him to the dr.s and staying with him a bit and driving him when needed. Then Mom, who has dementia & lives in the Assisted Living home had a severe urine infection and we spent 9 hours in the emergency hospital only to have them give her the wrong meds which actually mad it worse. I thought her Dr. was gonna blow his top when he found out. Anyway she's now pretty much in a wheelchair and its very hard for me alone to take her out anymore. Dad has come with me the last few times because I can't lift much due to my back. oh and that's all screwed up and I'm going to have the nerves shocked in my neck soon that hopefully will ease the pain for like 7 months or more. Then I've got to do the lower back. There are a lot of days I can't hardly walk because of the pain. Its really hell to get old.
  
  Oh I'm going in September to talk to the Mayo clinic in Scottsdale about doing the skin removal surgery. Its called the body lift, where they start on my back, rebuild my butt, redo my hips and take out about 35 to 45 lbs on my stomach. Then hopefully they will redo my boobs too. Its about an 11 hour surgery but it will be worth it. My insurance won't pay because they say its "cosmetic" but all of my dr.s are trying to get that changed. its really reconstructive. Otherwise my very sweet and loving father will pay. I hate that he might have to but he knows its needed for not only looks but its causing my lower back pain to be worse and I have skin issues.
  
  Oh and on top of all of this I started selling stuff on Amazon again. Its all under satinskper so if you all are looking for something look me up. Mostly romances, especially erotic ones, but there are a few mysteries and such.
  
  Well I hopefully will be online more. I miss you all. hey is the Vegas trip on for next year? I am planning to go no matter what. Unless my surgery screws it up. Let me know!

You would think with all the past issues from the prior surgeries it would be a slam dunk.   Once upon a time, there was a Man who planned a trip to the drugstore to pick up some prescriptions. Man decided he would need the checkbook. It usually lives in the desk drawer; it wasn't there! Man said to Woman, *Honey, do you have the checkbook in your purse?*
  
  Woman replied, *No, dear, last time I saw it, it was on the kitchen table. Remember? I wrote that check a week ago Thursday and left it right where I found it.*
  
  *Hmph,* said the disbelieving Man. *Well, can I look in your purse anyway?* After all, Woman can occasionally be absent-minded...
  
  *Sure, go ahead,* said Woman. *But I'm pretty sure it isn't there...*
  
  Man searched, then brought the purse to Woman for her to re-search. No check book. Woman put down her book, got off the couch, and started wandering the house, looking for the checkbook. Man and Woman checked her work totebag - perhaps the checkbook was in there? Nope. Woman kept thinking, *It was on the kitchen table for a week! Where'd it go?*
  
  Man stomped around the house, muttering and casting fulminating glances at Woman, who'd obviously misplaced the checkbook. Woman dumped out purse and totebag again. No checkbook. She suggested that Man has a habit of sticking the checkbook in his hip pocket - could it have fallen out in the car? Son was sent out with a flashlight to check the car. No checkbook. Son joined in the wandering-about-the-house.
  
  Son gave up. Woman gave up. Man gave up. They subsided into their comfy seats in the living room, fuming. Woman said, *Tomorrow I'll go to the bank and find out what the last cleared check was, and we'll tell the bank to not honor any numbers between the check *I* remember writing and the new pack of checks we'll have to start on.*
  
  Woman returned to book. Man fumed. Further muttered accusations of Woman's *loss* of the checkbook wafted across the room.
  
  Suddenly, Man sat upright (not easy in a La-Z-Boy), leapt to his feet, and charged off to den. Came back with checkbook in hand and a shame-faced expression. *Wheretheheck was it?* asked Woman.
  
  *In my lunchbox. I was going to pick up the prescriptions on my way home from work, and then I didn't, after all.* replied Man, looking somewhat abashed.
  
  *HAH!* cried Woman. *So it wasn't I who lost it, huh?*
  
  Son emerged from den to say, *Sounds like somebody owes somebody something...*
  
  Man agreed that the incident is probably going to cost him a dinner out. Son suggested candy and flowers would help, too. Woman nearly broke her arm patting self on back... *Told you I didn't lose the darn thing!*

  • I have not experienced this man vs woman event, Merry - but I did experience the one where Man accused Woman of not noting check she had written in the check register, so Man could not balance checkbook - nor could Man be sure we were not overdrawing the checking account.   • LMAO,Merry!!! After several situations all too similar to this one,Man & Woman at this house got separate accounts! They are still on each other's accts,but are NOT allowed to use/borrow/spend out of the other person's acct,card,etc., without prior authorization and complete accord.Which neither is willing to give,most of the time *G*It has worked for us,99% of the time,for probably the last ten years.We each have to keep track of our own money & be responsible for what we spend while still contributing to the bills 50/50.Woman at this house got sick of looking on in horror when man dumped out 3-4 day old receipts he had forgotten to declare nightly.Woman was appalled at Man's incompetence & and determined that Man could F-up his own acct. from then on if he so wished,LOL.Enjoy your victory dinner *G* (NT) -- Bo, Saturday, August 15, 04:32:10pm

  Ah! Most honorable and knowledgeable RBL Sister, it is as the beauty of the autumn moon for my humble self to once again be benefit of your keen knowledge of the written word. Please accept my most humble thanks for your recommendation of "Tell me no Lies" by Elizabeth Lowell.
  
  I am a HUGH Lowell fan and of her books published under that name, I have read almost all of them, except for this one, and a few of her very early smaller series books that I never found.
  
  Why did I wait 5 years to read it after you told me? Besides the fact that the print was very small in the copy that I have, I just thought I wasn't 'in the mood' for something dealing with Chinese Bronzes and etc etc.
  
  But what I WAS in the mood for was -- Catlin. I have many many favorite hero's from Lowell. #1 being Archer from Pearl Cove, next was Wolfe Lonetree from Only Mine (sorry Bo), throw in Caleb from Only His and then maybe toss in Tenn from Outlaw. I haven't even finished "Tell me no Lies" and already Catlin has moved into my number 1 spot.
  
  
  Anyhow, GREAT book and I thank you for urging me to read it. Feel free to throw a recommendation my way anytime!

  I know, I know, it's been forever and a day since I opened my mouth around here. It's been just weird, what with the anxiety attack that sent me to the ER one night in April (idiot that I am), and then the surgery to fix my fistula (well, it sorta fixed it) and then the *relapse* when I thought it was all healed, and all that other good stuff.
  
  Mix that with _three_ autograph parties in July (five authors one Sat., two the next, and one the week after that), and I've hardly had time to spin in place lately. Although, thank goodness, it's not been anything like Auntie Frannie's trials and tribulations (yikes, lady, here's hoping THAT's over with!).
  
  Happy birthday greetings to all who've been bypassed by my lurking-instead-of-typing, and happiness-and-joy wishes to everyone else who needs them.
  
  I honestly do sneak in 'most every day to at least assure myself that everyone's okay, even if I don't say much. Or anything.
  
  BTW - I've found the most hilarious blog - spent my at-work no-customer hours going all the way back to the beginning of it - look for Cake Wrecks; it's _so_ funny! If you haven't already been enjoying it, it's pictures (and comments) about various cakes - from bakeries, mind you - professionally decorated that just came out wrong somehow. Makes you wonder, what the heck was going through the baker's so-called mind at the time.   Months ago I wrote to my senators about the proposed healthcare bill and my concerns. I spelled out how I've spoken to insurance company representatives who have said they didn't want patient's involved in getting prior authorizations for medications (our office requires the patient contact their ins. co and get the appropriate form for us to fill out and fax back), how even though WA passed a law giving mental health benefits a parody (meaning that an ins. co. HAS to offer some type of mental health benefits) I'm filling out forms every day for 1) pre-exisiting condition waivers 2) appealing the 100% payment of $25 for benefits. I basically said that making sure all Americans have access to insurance is important, but I was concerned they were missing the big picture when it comes to healthcare.
  Since then all heck has broken loose over the topic, so I am having a teleconf. with a senator and 2 congressmen today. (2 Dems, 1 Republican FWIW) to once again give my opinion on the topic.
  This should be interesting!
  Peaceful, eloquent thoughts around 10 am PST would be appreciated.

  The last couple of weeks have been "interesting" as the Chinese say.
  
  First, the plumbing backed up, roots in the drains with accompanying exorbitant bill.
  
  Next, lightening struck near the house, throwing all the breakers, overloaded the computer's adapter, discharging the computer's battery, frying the phone line and the computer's modem. I tried flipping the breakers. Nothing happened. Hence, called the electricians who came and flipped them makinging them work and also leaving exorbitant bill. Why the circuits worked for them and not me... go figure.
  
  Ordered new adaptor for computer. Wrong one came in. Called the manufacturer..."Try old one after sitting for a week." Hey, it worked! But, no dial tone... modem fried. Modems in laptops can't be replaced because they are part of the mother board. (**&^#! Got external modem, with its accompanying exorbitant bill. Worked in the shop. Got home and hitched 'er up. ERROR! Black screen of death. Called computer shop back. "We're sorry, but he's gone home for the weekend." (^%$#! Took the computer and external modem back to the shop this morning. Everything worked fine. I tell you that inanimate objects are out to get us!
  
  Then after all that, a tree limb, weighing several tons, falls on my office/studio/carport, and I have that to repair and pay for. The last 15 days have definitely been "interesting". If I disappear again, it's because I can't pay the phone bill. On top of that, I have over a thousand e-mails staring at me. "Interesting" sucks!
  
  Sorry that I missed Birthdays. So Happy Birthday Jacinda, CindyO, Julie O, Lara, Nancy B, Liz C., and Judy. Whoever put Judy's card together, it was wonderful. If I missed anyone, please forgive me. Chalk it up to being shell shocked.
  
  Everybody, I loved reading the book discussions about food and friends. Love getting receipe ideas from my favorite books. I'm on HARRY POTTER (skipping those receipies), and LIBERTY AND TYRANNY by Mark Levin at the moment. Poles apart, but both really good. Lucy, I found that listening to books on long trips keep me from getting so tired. I think that my all time favorite is Mary Jo Putney's THE SPIRAL PATH.

  Hey there, I have a question for my beloved RBL's.
  If you could pick any road trip in the States where would you go?
  My DH and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary next month doing one of our favourite things...road trip! We are looking at about a week on the road.
  
  So, sell me on your best road trip. Where would you go? We like to see new stuff, try new things and are not precious at all. We kinda like flying by the seat of our pants a bit, not too planned, if we like somewhere we stay an extra day, if it's a bit boring we flag it and drive on.
  
  So far I've been to California, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado. I am kinda drawn to the South from what I see on telly, but it's a bit hot now, ah?
  I mean, it's 32 c and 95% humidity in Hong Kong right now, so I can deal, but you guys let me know where you'd go if you could get up and head out somewhere tomorrow...

  • Joanie, if I were you, I'd take a Civil War road trip. That will take you through the heart of the South, as well as north of Mason Dixon. I'd visit the major Civil War battle sites. I've always wanted to do that with my boys. And I'm being totally honest and unselfish to suggest this because you KNOW I'd rather have you drivin' in Colorado (which, BTW, has much you haven't seen).   • If I only had a week, I would do Washington DC, up to Baltimore, MD. You have colonial war history, Civil War history, Maritime History, 2 Major League Baseball stadiums to catch a game in, a huge number of fabulous food options, easy drive time to a beach if you desire for a day or to the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, there are wineries, antique stores, and pretty easy to navigate mass transit if you want to park the car and not hassle with driving and bad (really bad) road signage. *lol* Our weather can be hot and humid for the next 6 to 8 weeks, but then the humidity leaves.   • Two that I thought of have already been mentioned - Baltimore to Washington and the New England coast from, say, Mystic Village north. Another pretty area is upstate New York State - the Finger Lakes area, with lakes, wineries, little old towns.   • You might want to do SD since it has so much to offer The Corn Palace, Crazy Horse Monument, Mt Rushmore, The Thoen Stone and more. You might also like to visit WI we have so much here, Botanitical Gardens, Zoos, The Dells {very Popular}, lots of different sports from boating, swimming, fishing to skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobling. Some of the historic sites are not well know Prairie du Chein has Villa Louis & Pestigo which had more loss to fire than Chicago on the same night.   • Well, I love in the deep south so I'm used to the heat here but I still recommend it for a trip. I think touring the plantation homes and civil war sites (like P.C. recommended) is a wonderful trip. You can also stay at some of the plantations that have been converted to B&Bs.   I've been book-high for the past few days! (Don't worry, its legal.)
  
  I picked up an older book off of my KEEPER shelf and decided to re-read it. Sometimes this is a crap shoot when it has been so long since I had previously read a certain book - that I remembered NOTHING about it...well, wasn't I pleasantly surprised to really really enjoy this book (again!!)? (And what is it about a medieval man that floats my boat? It has always been my favorite genre! Well, I guess its any alpha male that I like, but give him a castle and a sword and it just seals the deal...LOL).
  
  The story was good, the interaction between the h/h was good, great dialogue, humor and emotion...and it reaffirms why almost every book I've read by this author is on my keeper shelf.
  
  The More I See You by Lynn Kurland
  
  Anyhow, I don't feel like starting a new book yet, I'm still in the glow...basking.

• Hey ladies! Just returned from the KMM maniacs Scotland trip and it was AWESOME! I can't wait to return to that beautiful land. Happy Birthday to all the ones I missed, welcome to any newbies and I hope to get caught up soon on everything here. While on vacation, I got to read Emma's Breaking Midnight and can't wait for Saving Midnight to come out. I also got a few of the ladies on the trip excited about reading this series too.   Where do I start? *G* Emma brings the Fitz Clare Chronicles to a very satisfying conclusion in this third book.I LOVED it!I laughed,cried,was breathless,pissed,you name it.She goes back and forth between locations and characters with effortless skill.I was never bored or confused,but eager to know what everyone was doing,whether they were friend or foe.
  
  Emma treats us to not just one,or even two,but FOUR couples who are intense and fascinating,yet don't steal the show from each other.They have grown and changed throughout this trilogy and I loved seeing the many different relationships in this story.Whether it was the passion between lovers,the camaraderie between friends and siblings,the animosity of enemies,or the mutual respect and cooperation between two Upyr elders,each interaction is a delight.Oh,and I can't forget what a wonderful father Edmund continues to be to his children! His tenderness toward his children always shines through,and I teared up at one especially touching scene.
  
  This book has everything!Passion,lust,humor,love,hate,anguish,greed,power,hope,plus a GREAT cast of characters that brings each word and emotion to startling,vivid life on the pages.

• Has anyone tried Audiobooks? I'm hooked. I spend alot of time in my car. Who wants to listen to music when you can listen to a book. Many people can't focus on the book.   I've been without dependable Internet since last Sunday - I'm on dialup here in PA, and the phone was going in and out! It went out 5 times this morning alone while I was trying to download 7 emails - it was driving me nuts!   • Susan Mallery has a series that involves restaurant/family businesss, and the 1st in the series features a female chef. It was a good series...I think it was the Buchanan series (4 books in all). Also, Sherry Thomas' "Delicious" has a historical female chef and a lot of description of things using food type language...I never finished the book, but the writing was wonderful....I just couldn't get into the story...but I will definately go back and try and read it again.   Great time, toured the White House (yay!) and got to meet Anne Stuart AND get a signed copy of her new book! Met up with fellow authors, danced at the Harlequin party (Gennita was dancing all night, I think!) etc. Had a great time.
  
  Also, steampunk is up and coming... if anyone has any good recommendations, would love to hear them. I don't write steampunk, but the idea fascinates me and I'd love to read some of these books.

  • Not crazy about steampunk books myself (I like my spaceships sleek!), but if you get a chance to watch "Warehouse 13" on SyFy (stupid name) channel, they show a lot of steampunk stuff. And there's a guy building the most gorgeous keyboards... I'll put the URL inside. BTW, Linda, steampunk is fiction set in a world where the machinery may be as advanced as our own, but it's all gears, springs, and powered by steam.   I'm back home from DC and I have NO voice. I have no idea what happened. Maybe it was all the talking I did? *laugh*
  
  I had a blast. I got to see G. Low (we have some fab pictures of us looking HOT), Ann, Heather, and I gushed all over Jenna Black. Yay! I met a ton of other people, of course, and I'll be posting photos soon.
  
  It was CRAZY crowded and I didn't get to meet up with everyone that I hoped I would. *boo*
  
  And I was jinxed on my way out AND my way back with delayed flights, being bumped to other airlines and/or other stopover cities, etc. Luckily, the people at the airline were super helpful, nice, and they even booked me into first class on one of my return flights. Nice!!
  
  Next year is Nashville so ya'll start planning now!
