Boner===> Good sex half-way through and thereafter.
STIFF====> Good sexual tension throughout the book, and when it happens, you feel you've been there already.
HUGH=====> GREAT SEX in the first 1/4 of book and throughout the book.

  Now, it's not that I have nothing I could be doing (and I've been doing it, honest!) - it's just that I'm sitting here in the store, it's 1 p.m., and I've had exactly one customer in here in three hours. *yawwwnnnnn*
  
  I should be entering books in my online database (had a bunch of old Nancy Drew/Judy Bolton/Cherry Ames/Trixie Belden/Dana Girls come in over the weekend), but after spending three hours looking them all up, pricing, grading, and all that, I'm sick of looking at them for the moment.
  
  Maybe it's lunchtime. That usually brings in someone. One bite of food (especially a hot food) and the people appear from nowhere.... Yeah, I'll have some lunch and crack open my library book (all 629 pages of hardcover).
  
  But heck, I can't just lock up and go home, just 'cause there're no customers. Can I? *jk*
  
  Well, at least I have you to talk to! Thank goodness.

  Marie Force will be here from 1-3 p.m., signing her first book, "Line of Scrimmage", and second book, "Love at First Flight", both contemporary romances.
  
  I keep saying we need a slightly rainy Saturday to get a good turn-out for signings (so far this year we've had lovely sunny days and low attendance) - and it's cool and rainy out, so here's hoping my theory is proven today!
  
  We'll have pineapple cheescake tarts, triple chocolate brownies, Nilla sandwich cookies, and fruit-on-a-stick, with iced tea on the side.
  
  If you're in the neghborhood (Sharon, MA), Marie and I would love to see you! I put my email above, just in case anyone wants directions...

  • Thanks - it worked! We sold about half the books I had ordered, people came, people talked, people ate goodies. Guess it was a success. Although we did have to deal with The Talker. Older lady, comes in and talks the ear off anyone in sight. For hours. She even talked to the card racks when everyone hid from her in the back room.   Hi all Just a quick catch up from me and a pic to share with you all. With the Maniacs visiting Scotland, I was asked some months ago if I would take the Z-Lo (which went on tour with them!)and organise some UK Maniac events after they left. I didn't know then that by July I would be in the middle of changing jobs after getting a promotion, changing cars and moving 400 miles from near London to Edinburgh!!!! (Yep, I'm now living in Scotland!! )So when the Z-Lo ended up being needed back in the US a few weeks after I received it I wasn't that sorry to have one less thing on my plate BUT I'm very pleased that what I did manage to do in between packing boxes etc, was take it to visit one long-time KMM fan who can't easily hop on plane and go to a US book signing!
  I'm going to miss my Oxford Borders/Starbucks catch-ups with Beth but hopefully I'll still be able to see her when I'm down south occasionally.
  
  I've finally got round to reading Suzanne Brockmann's trouble-shooter series and went and bought 3 more last weekend! I'm loving them - I've only taken a break to read Heat Seeker. I'm told it's a good one. I felt Bengal's Heart did not have the usual LL hawtness, so I'll be happy to see her back to her usual form.

  Anyone already belong to the Paperback Book Swap site? I've heard about it from several reputable sources but would like to ask someone who actually belongs several questions. Such as, are you getting books in good shape? I'm really fussy about my books. One of the reasons I stopped going to the UBSs here. If I buy a new book and read it, 90% of the time it still looks unread. Also, is it like the yahoo group where the first on the list gets the next book. What if you want to hold out for one in better shape? And is there a rating system like with ebay?

  • Hi Lynda/WA I have been trading books on PBS for 3-4 years now and am very pleased. Yes, you get on a list and wait your turn for the next book available. BUT you can specify that you only want books in new or barely used condition. PBS has general rules about the condition of traded books (like no water damage and must have the front cover etc.) and if books don't meet conditions you get your credit back.   Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet or bread, are meat.
  
  We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
  
  And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can amend something, and posssibly make amends for something, but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

  Okay, so I'm in the mood for medievals, have been for a while. I saw a couple new series and was wondering if anyone has read them?
  
  Master of the Highlands by Veronica Wolff (which is part 1 and I bought it today). I haven't read her before but I had a coupon at Borders so I picked this up.
  
  Karin Tabke - Master of Surrender, Master of Torment and one other in a trilogy. They didn't have part 1 at the store I was in today so I haven't picked it up yet, but it looks dee-lish!
  
  Anybody read either of these authors or series?
  
  Anybody reading any new (or new to you) authors that you want to share with us about?
  
  Other than that, not too much new going on here. I've been taking it easy on the weekends and also working from home a bit since we are at the end of our purchasing cycle at work and we are swamped! I did manage to fit in some laundry, scrub the tub (which I hate, but if I do it once a week, its not so bad) and I also managed to start Brockmann's newest HOT PURSUIT. I just adore Sam Starrett, can't help it.
  
  Anyhoo, hope we all have a lovely week. I'm off to the eye dr this week and hopefully getting some new glasses so I can read small print again without squinting :)~
  
  What is everyone reading? Any big plans for Labor Day weekend?
