  • I'm having an almost perfect day! -- AnnAnn, Saturday, January 30, 12:06:04pm
It's snowing, but since it's a weekend, I don't have to go anywhere, so I can just watch the pretty flakes come down while I watch the end of 3000 miles to Graceland (Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell and Courtney Cox), while reading FANTASY IN DEATH surrounded by the aroma of my beef barley & mushroom stew simmering away in my slow cooker. *g*

Really, it is almost the perfect day. I say "almost" since Kurt Russell is on the TV and not on my couch. If Kurt was on my couch, I wouldn't be concerned with the movie or the book. *eg*

Hi ladies! Don't know how many people here remember me, it has been a while but life has been crazy. Just wanted to say I was lucky enough to have met a couple RBL's also living in Austin, TX a couple weekends ago. Su, Joey and I also had in our possession the coveted MacHalo from Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series, as I was the Austin host. So I thought I'd share a few pictures of some RBL's rockin' the MacHalo in style. Enjoy!

  • Book, books, books -- SusanZ SusanZ., Thursday, January 28, 10:29:01am
As I am much better at posting in the New Year (New Year’s resolution), I wanted to tell you about all the books I read lately.

I read Pamela Clare’s second book “Carnal Gift”, which was exciting and romantic and I enjoyed it. Next were Jude Deveraux’s 3rd and 4th books of the Velvet Series (Velvet Song and Velvet Angel) – which were both very enjoyable. I liked the last one about Miles and Elisabeth (that is the right name, isn’t it? – Because in the German version- the version of the different names - she is called Fiona and the heroine of the 3rd book, Alyx is called Clarissa. No clue why the names are better?! ) best, they are a great couple.

Furthermore I read Christina Dodd’s “Rules of Attraction”, which was a really amusing and enjoyable book with a slightly different plot, because the h/h were already married, but she ran away 9 years ago. I liked the way they tried to outwit each other, only to find out that they really were in love with each other – and the little mystery in between plus the crazy aunts were great and fun too! Highly recommended, in my opinion!

Moreover I read my first Gaelen Foley book “The Pirate Prince”, which I enjoyed immensely – great story, great, likeable h/h and a bad and despicable villain.
Then I read my first Sandra Hill book “My fair Viking”, which was so amusing and fun, I loved it!
Next was my first (there were many new to me authors, I just notice) Madeleine Hunter book “By Arrangement”, which was a great book too and had a new plot too, about a noblewoman marrying a merchant. I liked the new plot, the information about the medieval time and the characters a lot. Great book!

Another book I read was Susan Johnson’s “Sweet Love Survive”, which was hot, but I didn’t like the plot so much. Much, much better however was Amanda Quinn’s “I Thee Wed”, which was cute and exciting and fun. I loved Emma’s strong willed character and Edison’s clever and disciplined mind.

At the moment I am reading Nicole Jordan’s “Wildstar”, which is a Western set historical and it is really sweet and exciting all the same. Then I am re-reading Kinley MacGregor “A Dark Champion”, which is fantastic, two strong willful characters, great secondary characters and a thrilling plot. I hope she carries the “Brotherhood of the Sword” tales on soon. I’d love to get to know more about Damien, Kit, Nassir, Zenobia, and all of his friends! Another re-read for the now was Karen Marie Moning’s “Kiss of the Highlander”, which is cute, funny and hot at the same time. A wonderful book for long winter evenings in my opinion!

Well that was a lot, but I haven’t posted in forever and a day! What great books are you all reading at the moment?

  • I finished 2 really good books this week. -- AnnAnn, Sunday, January 24, 01:42:41pm
I finally had a chance to read ICE by Linda Howard - a perennial favorite author for me. I enjoyed it, although it was short *whine* and I am glad I got the e-book version for less then I would have had to pay for the hardback. Her heros tend to be overwhlemingly ALPHA sometimes, and while Gabe in ICE was in charge, he wasn't overpowering about it. And Lolly (the heroine) wasn't simpering and TSTL. She was smart, self reliant, but also willing to listen to Gabe when it was important.

I was specially happy with the way it ended. It was funny because just last night (I finished ICE this morning)I was talking to a good friend, and we were saying how as we get older, the more we seem to like it when a book ends without the marriage between the H/H. I mean, we still want/demand the HEA, but we are just as happy when the HEA doesn't include a wedding. Does that make sense? Does anyone else feel that way, or is the marriage a "must" for you?

I also finished COMING UNDONE by Lauren Dane. This is the sequel (sort of) to her September 2009 book LAID BARE which I thought was one of the best books I read (yes, including my Laurell K. Hamilton reads) Again, a great satisfying emotional read. The H/H are a little older and have weathered some issues in their lives. I thought the chemistry was great, the love scenes were smoking, and again, the ending was (IMHO) perfectly suited to the couple.

I heard Lauren Dane is planning a third book about the last brother (Adrian) and if so, I will be pacing the bookstore (virtually of course, since I am all about my Sony E-Reader)for it to be released.

I thought I'd do a RBL only contest for an ARC of In the Darkest Night, my April 2010 release. This is the 4th book in my Light Warriors series.

The blurb I have up for the book is: Kel Andrews has spent the last year living with nightmares and flashbacks. Unwilling to share what happened, he's withdrawn from his family and the Gineal council has removed him from his position as a troubleshooter. But when a woman shows up asking for protection from a demon, Kel reluctantly agrees to help--and finds himself facing an unexpected adversary, one he doesn't know how to fight.

To win, just email me through the link on this post by 4pm Eastern time on Friday, Jan 15th. I'll choose one random winner from all those entered.

Thanks and I hope everyone is having a great 2010!

  • Thought I'd Pop in and Say Hi! -- ChrisMM ChrisMM, Friday, January 08, 10:49:08am
Okay, I know, it's been a REALLY long time since I popped in at all. I miss all of you, but it's been absolutely insane in my household lately. Yes, Linda, I know, no excuse. Sheesh... where to start...

When I talked to y'all while you were here for the Sleepover I told you I'd been writing Erotic Romance under a pseudonym. I now have five short stories that are free reads published under my pseudonym. I sent a manuscript off to an epublisher for consideration and they liked it, but still had to decline it. They were very nice and actually told me that they'd be interested in anything else I might have for them. That ms is in edits and will hopefully be sent back out to another publisher by the end of this month. I'm enjoying writing, but don't do it as much as I would like.

The boys are all growing like weeds and the "baby" will be two on the 21st of this month. I know, where did the time go, right? They're all doing very well all around, and our oldest will be starting middle school next school year (so THIS year)... I don't think I'm ready for that...

We had two deaths, and one very close call in our family this year and even though it's been a few months, we're all still dealing with the loss. My dh's brother had a heart attack, and since he's only two years older than my hubby it was a bit of a shock to all of us. After surgery to place a stint in his heart he's doing much better, but it was very close. Three weeks after that dh's Gramma passed away. She was 96 and surrounded by her family, so it wasn't as hard as it could be, but we all still miss her. This was our first holiday season without her and her absence was felt. Then one month later our cousin-in-law and very dear friend was running a relay race here in Vegas and was struck and killed by a drunk driver. He was 33 years old and survived by his lovely wife (dh's cousin) and their three young children. Needless to say, that one has been the hardest for all of us to accept. He was a sweet, wonderful man who loved his family and loved life and it just doesn't make any sense to us. We traveled quite a bit in that two month period of time.

My dance classes are going well, but I've cut them down to five a week instead of the insane 10 that I was doing before. And I do love doing them, but I think they might have to go to the wayside after not much longer. I know, I've said that before, but I think this time I really mean it! LOL

Now, as if all of that wasn't enough... I started a home business making and selling jewelry and other beading "stuff" lol. It's actually starting to take off, which is where teaching dance may have to take a hiatus. I make jewelry, book thongs (which some of you already have, lol), window prisms, hairpins... and anything else that catches my eye. Yes, I have a link, Lin: PixiesPretties.etsy.com but I don't have a lot of my product up there right now due to Christmas.

Healthwise, I'm doing okay. It goes up and down and some days are better than others, but it's manageable. :-D All in all, I'm doing well, and I figured I was long overdue for a visit. I'm hoping that I'll be able to actually pop more than I have lately. I hope everyone is doing well!

    ~Chris

  • HOW COLD IS IT??? -- Judy, Thursday, January 07, 07:29:54pm
It was so cold at Orlando airport this morning that they had to de-ice the planes! Of course, they don't have de-icing equipment in Florida, so they taxied the planes into the sunlight and let the sun melt the ice. You can imagine the delays.

Florida is probably going to lose the strawberry crop - they were just beginning to ripen. And the broccoli crops are gone. And we don't know about the citrus yet.

AND ... it may SNOW as far south as Orlando tomorrow night!!!!! That's south of us here in Palm Coast! What is going on?????

  • For the para lovers...a recommend. -- Beaty, Wednesday, January 06, 08:18:44pm
I just finished Shannon K Butcher's FINDING THE LOST. The most recent novel in The Sentinel Wars series. If you like para - if you like warriors - if you like non-stop action - if you like kick-ass (can I say that?) heroines give it a try. It's wonderful!

  • Long time, no lurk! -- Katie Katie, Sunday, January 03, 08:57:07pm
Hi, just thought I'd stop by for a quickie visit after not being here for forever. I blame more than one dead computer and other crazy stuff going on in my life. :)

Hmm, lemme think -- what's happened since I've not been here? Well, the big one is I had a baby! I like to call her Number Three Baby Surprise, since we REALLY weren't planning on any more. We absolutely adore her, and my husband thanked me a little while ago for not letting him get that vasectomy he had planned (yeah, I kinda wanted another one, but we couldn't afford it--then the issue was taken out of our hands!).

Anyway, she's a whole year old now, which is kind of shocking. Actually, the whole thing is -- all through the pregnancy, early months, even now, I'm like, how did this baby get here again? ;)

She's the cutest, sweetest, happiest baldy around. I can't imagine not having her, and the older girls are great with her. Though she makes it very difficult to get a proper night's sleep, since she's sharing our room and that's just not working out anymore. Hopefully we'll move soon.

Anyway, I've been totally not buying any books, and my local library is kind of limited in what they carry for romances. But we have a great system and I can order just about any book I want (last summer I ran through all of Loretta Chase's backlist, for ex). So if somebody could give me some recommendations? Anything, book or series, you totally loved--let me know! Also, any mainstream fiction that doesn't end on a big downer would be good, too.

    Happy New Year, RBLs!

It's cold here in north Florida - I don't think it went out of the 40s today, although it was a beautiful sunny day! This is very rare here - we may even get a slight freeze. I felt cold until I saw that it was MINUS 40 in Michigan and Wisconsin and Minnesota. Good grief!

What's it like where you are???

  • New-to-me-author! I'm reading Linda Wisdom's 'Hex' series. She writes paranormal romance with spunky, strong female heroines (sexy heroes) with lots of humor and sprinkled with some HOT love scenes! I do love when I find a new and exciting author. Especially when there's an already-written series to read! I'm halfway through 'Hex in High Heels'. :-D -- BAM, Sunday, January 03, 03:29:56pm

  • NAKED EDGE by Pamela Clare -- Beaty, Saturday, January 02, 10:22:00am
Pamela's newest novel is part of her I-Team series. Katherine James is a Navajo investigative journalist who brings a lot of the native culture into her writing. Her plan is to find out what's going on at Mesa Butte. Why are people dying? Katherine reminds me of me in many ways. *G* Nope - not gonna tell you the ways.

My introduction to Gabriel Rossiter gave me such vivid picture memories I'll be remembering the pictures long after I forget why I'm remembering it! How can you not enjoy "watching" a rock climber sweating and straining for that next hold - without his shirt! WOW! It's a wonderful picture.

Gabriel is a park ranger who is, also, trying to figure out why Mesa Butte has had so many strange happenings lately. Our tortured hero needs a Katherine in his life.

Pamela has brought her love of native culture, climbing and the outdoors into a wonderful story of love reawakened along with that first love. Just beautiful!

I really enjoyed "seeing" some of my old favorites in this story. Ahhhhhh - Marc! *G*

NAKED EDGE goes on sale March 2nd. You need to be there to get your copy!
