• I found a new-to-me author with a SERIES that I love! BUT! The ending in the last book blew me away and not in a good way. I thought "No. She can't do that. It's against all the rules."   Hi all, Happy Memorial Day!
  
  Thanks to all who serve our country, or who have served! At 3pm today there is a call for a 'moment of silence' to honor those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
  
  I finished the re-read of Hard Eight and am now on Kurlands newest 'One Magic Moment', and its good so far. Other than that, not too much to report...just been enjoying my 'pj-cation'.
  
  I told a friend I was going to do a 'stay-cation' for this long holiday weekend, and just stay home in my p.j.'s all weekend and do nothing.
  
  He informed me that he was under the impression that a 'stay-cation' involved leaving your house but doing things around the local area (sightseeing or hiking or visiting places you've never been). So, I had to come up with a new term. Here were some choices:
  
  Lazy-cation
  Jammie-cation or pj-cation
  working-the-remote-but-nothing-else-cation
  keep-the-curtains-closed-and-don’t-answer-the-phone-cation
  keep-a-book-in-my-hand-for-3-days-straight-stopping-only-to-eat-or-sleep-cation
  
  I went with the 'pj-cation' but all those other things apply as well. Anyone think of any others?
  
  BTW, Pamela, I enjoyed your entry 'dear reader' on the Berkley/Jove newsletter! What a wonderful way to give a quick synopsis of each of your I-TEAM books! I'm revved up more than ever! I have a strange feeling that Marc is going to be my fave and I have only read the first book so far!! But I could be wrong...and it would be so much fun to be wrong in this case! LOL

  (She) leaned back in the vinyl booth and stretched out her legs until she could hook her ankle around his calf and pull him closer. Then she gave him what she hoped was a seductive smile and lowered her non-quite-steady hands to her borrowed shirt, unfastening the first two buttons with slow, teasing motions.
  
  She saw him still, saw his eyes drop and fix on the pale skin newly bared by the partially unfastened shirt, and she felt a sense of power that made her smile widen.
  
  "I just turned twenty-seven years old," she said, slipping her hand into the open placket of the shirt she wore and trailing her fingers along the pale skin from her throat to her modest cleavage and back again. His eyes followed the motion as if they were glued to it. "Only child. Born in Brooklyn, raised in Westchester County. Went to Sarah Lawrence. Degree in early childhood education. Never broken a bone, but once sprained my wrist playing tennis. Haven't picked up a racket since."
  
  She continued speaking, opening another button every few words. By the time she started telling him about her parents and the fact that she was mortally afraid of jellyfish, the dimple of her belly button was just visible in the opening of her shirt. She saw his jaw clench and circled her fingertip around the last remaining button. It and the knot in the shirttails were the only things standing between her and her very first arrest for indecent exposure.
  
  "Allergic to shellfish, but adore catfish, especially blackened. Favorite musicians include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Sarah McLachlan, and the Indigo Girls."
  
  She paid no attention to anyone around her, since none of them paid any attention to her. They lived in Manhattan, which meant one woman in a diner with her shirt hanging open but still covering all her vital parts didn't make front-page news. In fact, it probably wouldn't even make a blip on their radar.
  
  Licking her lips, she rubbed her foot against his leg under the table and slowly, slowly unfastened that last button.
  
  "I like long walks in the park, breakfast in bed on Sunday mornings, and watching old musicals on DVD. Biggest turn-ons are confident men who know what they want, have a sense of humor, and turn furry once a month."
  
  She shifted slightly, baring the center plane of her pale, smooth torso to his avid gaze. A low growl rumbled in his chest and he clutched the tabletop in a white-knuckled grip, but she couldn't resist pressing just a little further.
  
  Her eyes on his face, she pushed her shirt aside just far enough for him to see the inside curves of her breasts, then ran her hands between them and down to the fastening of her slacks.
  
  "Think you know enough about me yet?" She asked, her voice husky and purring and as taunting as her subtle striptease. "Or did you need something else?"
  
  Her fingers flexed and the top button on her slacks popped open. Almost instantly, (his) eyes blazed a vivid, glowing green and his arm shot into the air.

  Have all you historical reading ReBeLs read A MATTER OF CLASS? It came out last year, and was nominated for a couple Hughies. It's about novella length, and so clever - the story construction and the plot - it takes a while to catch on what's happening, but believe me, you'll smile the whole rest of the way through once you do - I'm smiling just thinking and writing about it. I loved it so much, I bought it in hard copy and for my e-reader, plus bought it for two other people and gave it to them - it really is a must read for historical lovers!

  • I'm going back and finishing the re-reading of Pamela Clare's I-Team Series books - I was going to read them all before I read her new one (BREAKING POINT), but I made the mistake of reading the first few pages and I was hooked. Since all of the characters from the other books are so involved in BREAKING POINT, though, it got me interested in the other books all over again. I just finished Jacquelyn Frank's latest "Three Worlds Novel", "Seduce Me in Dreams". She is a 4+ author for me, her book "Drink Me" is one of my favs. Boner, futuristic style. I'm also a Lynn Viehl fan with the Darkyn series. Kresley Cole's latest Immortals after Dark installment, (9th), "Dreams of a Dark Warrior" caused me to reread the entire series.   So I was channel surfing one day a couple months ago, and chanced on the Idol tryouts in Nashville. Now, in all the years Idol has been on TV, I've never watched it - altho' I've been aware of some of the winners, of some of the participants' careers, and of some of the controversies over the years too. But watching that tryout session hooked me this year! I've watched every episode since. I picked some of the finalists from the beginning - Scotty and James in particular - and have been having fun watching them stay in the competition. I've also followed Lauren since her tryout - I was impressed at first, but think she hasn't grown that much over the weeks. And, after not thinking she was that great at the beginning, I've really come to like Haley and think she has a great voice and stage presence.
  
  So my questions are: Does anyone else watch Idol? Were you as shocked as I was to see James voted out - not even make the top three??? (He wasn't my personal fave, but I did think he'd be the winner.) Did you think that Lauren would be voted out? What do you think of Scotty ... of Haley? And who do you think will win it now?

  • As you might have noticed - I'm totally into Idol this year. I've not had a TV to watch in 20 years but just got a free hook-up from my satellite company and thought why not? Idol was the first thing I caught. I've been hooked since just before the top 24. Like you, I've been thinking James then Scotty. Haley has come on very strong in recent weeks. Lauren just loosened up last week. I think that's why she made top three. She finally listened to the judges and let loose. Scotty doesn't surprise me. I think he has the poplular teenage girl vote as well as the country western votes. I really couldn't have picked who would go off this week. But James was a surprise. He's probably the only one I wouldn't have picked. I Haley keeps picking the right songs - she has the best over-all voice.     • I read something online that said that Scotty is getting the country votes, the tween and teen girls' votes - AND all the mothers' votes, because he is so clean cut.   • I've watched off and on for a while. First year I watched was when Carrie Underwood won. Pia was probably the best singer this year, but she didn't have a good stage presence or entertainment value....I thought James was the next best voice, but not everyone liked his style or the occasional scream. I said i wasn't going to watch this year but the curiosity factor of Tyler and Lopez sucked me in and NOW after last week? I'm taking my marbles and going home since they voted my guy off. LOL I'm done with Idol and have switched over to THE VOICE on NBC. I'd like to see the voting changed to the way Dancing with the Stars does in, 1/2 judges votes and 1/2 public votes BUT votes are limited to 5 a day from each phone line.   So I'm a little more than halfway through PC's BREAKING POINT and am thinking, Wait a minute - isn't the story about over? The exciting stuff has happened, the climaxes - double meaning intentional - have occurred, the story should be winding down. So how come there are so many pages left to the end? And then - boom! Surprise boom!

  • Not sure about FL but in Calif we'd give you a hearing when you answer the question about seizures & take your Dr. from PA's input & make a decision based on that. You shouldn't have a problem, just may take a little longer than just walking in the door & getting it same day.   Since I'm the last one, everyone else is home safe and sound. We had a great time as we always do when we get together. We'd have done a bit more wandering if I hadn't bummed up my knee the eveing we got back from St. George. I kept telling everyone I'd be fine by myself...just go have fun. But they all stayed and even delivered me my food. Such wonderful friends! I hope I didn't mess up their vacations too much.
  
  We were a small group this year, but we never get tired of sitting around the big conference table discussing books, food, heroes, food, authors, food, family, jobs, the nation, food and (Barb and I) American Idol. *G*
  
  Sigh - back to the real world tomorrow.

One I'm getting ready to release in the not too distant future, a YA under the name PT Michelle. But no worries, I've also been working on a new adult paranormal romance as well. This story is an offshoot of my Kendrian world. If any of you read my Kendrian vampire books, they featured five vampire clans and one of the clans had an Irish background. This book will focus on a group from the original Irish clan called the Atruans. I'll share more when I'm closer to releasing that book!   • Hi Judy, Wednesday was Spa Day, so we were too blissed out to post. *lol* Yesterday we did our best Thelma and Louise and drove up to see Bo and Brenna (what a cutie) where played with the dogs, and then ate lunch and visited before driving back. Last night we checked out a greek restaurant and after eating too much returned to the hotel. This morning, we were all very lazy but eventually stirred ourselves to go downstairs where after making our way through the wntire New Mexico University baseball team (who knew Baseball players were so cute?), we got our car and finally went out to a fabulous brunch place called Hash, Hash a Go-Go and again ate too much. We walked off our over indulgence off at the Swap meet, then zipped through a book store (because we are RBLs) and now some of us are at the pool and others are napping and some are reading.
