The criterion hotel was in Point road in the old berth. The atrium of the hotel was the custom point with the bar on one side of it and the restaurant and accomodation on the other. That wasx early 60's by about 63 they were using the new berth closer to the centre of town. The Manchestr is long gone but was about 500 meters up the road from the Grand. Small hotel with a very good bar and restaurant on the first floor but you had to go doen to grounfd floor for the toilets. Then there is the De Waal hotel just under the mountain where they used to hold the ships dance on a Tuesday night, not sure if all Castle boats held one. Then the Tickey hock bar by the Adderley street station and not far from the O.K. bazar was a bar thta had a live Rhodesian ridgeback that sat in the bar. Funny thing thta bar never had any trouble. Such memories. happy daze john in oz
