Hi,
Just came across this site whilst surfing (no not in the Sea haha!) and thought that some of you may be interested in seeing what Ships are around the Globe each day.
Its a live tracker and shows some interesting facts Like Tides ,positions etc.
There may be a better one around,if so do please let me know. Thanks
Vernon

Hi All.
After reading about that Greek ship that sunk in the channel,I got the NSW Vindi Newsletter. A story there about the Polish Skipper who got twelve months jail in the UK for ramming his 2,000 ton grain ship into an unmanned oil rig off Cromer while drunk in charge. On watch by himself he went to look at his computer. [Was he reading our posts?}while the crew were getting aboard the rafts he was having another drink.
While the crew got off safely, he tied himself to a lifebelt and threw himself into the waves, trouble was he had forgotten to realease the cord attached to the ship.
Just as well he wasn't near the Greek he could have done himself some harm with all that timber in the drink.
Cheers Des

Maybe its the seasonal syndrome S.A.D but i am getting really fed up with Britain, the way it is going with the consistant shootings in the cities, the lousy pensions and weather, the price of fuel and general living costs.New Zealand is looking an attractive new venture, how do the locals feel about old farts immigrating,is there much anti immigrant feeling over there,i would not be taking anyones job at 65. Is North island or South island the best part to live in?I figure North Island would be better for weather.Feedback would be appriciated.

I was on the "Tidespring" in '66, joined in Aden paid off in Rosyth 23/12/1966. It was the BEST TRIP I ever had, ALWAYS INTERESTING not just "A" to "B" with a cargo, food was great, no restrictions on the ladies you invited aboard, on the RAS you were paid extra , you had your own cabin, the places we visited were great, we even tied up on pontoons under Sydney Bridge (which at night was very romantic for the ladies invited aboard) and then to cap it all in "Subic Bay" the yanks had to be back on their base at midnight and Prices dropped, need I say more !
HAPPY DAYS.

On another well known site i have viewed photos of some of you, then, and now. The years have left their mark as they have with all of us. But when I read the postings from you I look at all of you in a different light. I can see Peter running around the deck on one of the Queens. Vernon kicking the waves at Seapoint. Mike in Maidstone as a young and healthy 20 year old rushing to catch his next ship, George going into the Bargate, Doolaly jim pulling up the anchor. Tarcey and Beth as young girls waiting for the ship to come home. Memories, the one thing we have than no one can ever take from us, sadly they are all in the past. How do you see others? happy daze john in oz

The Greek registered Ice Prince has now sunk 15 miles off Portland Bill in Devon in bad weather. Her stern is on the bottom while the bow is above water. She was on her way to Egypt with a cargo of timber. Two French salvage tugs are standing bye. Photograph on the BBC News Page. A very sad site indeed. David

I have just booked my beloved Land Rover (the second love of my life) into the London to Brighton Land Rover Run 30th September 2008. I shall be flying two 3 X 5 Red Ensigns and will stick out like the preverbal Bull Dogs whatsits amongst all the George Flags, Satires, Dragons and Union Flags so if anyone of you are on Brighton Promenade on that day call in for a drink with Sue and I we would love to meet you.

Wonder if the Ever Lovely Tracy will be entering her beloved Land Rover?

Looking forward to the Second Liverpool Meet up 16th February let me or Jack D know if you are able to be with us, it was a hoot last year.

Regards all Steve Sherratt R770014 South Derbyshire

One for the Antipodeans. What is the situation regarding moves between Oz and NZ? Is it virtualy borderless? Or do restrictions apply? As an example, Can Des just sell up in NZ, Move to Oz, Buy a house, and even work there without having to go through most of the usual emigration bumph? Cheers Albi

Hello everyone and a Happy New Year.
Just wanted to introduce myself.
I have been watching with great interest the coming and goings on this site for quite some time now.
Have to say it is indeed very interesting in many ways.
The info is very useful and informative. You all seem like a great bunch of guys. Even when you are insulting one another. It is very entertaining I must say, and I look forward to my daily dose. Keep up the good work.
Denise.

I am sorry for being a bit late wishing all you nice people on this wonderful web site A Happy New Year but as the saying goes better late than never.
A special New Year Greeting to Brian & Carol because without them we wouldn't get the enjoyment we do from this great site.
We have had a very worrying time because my wife has been in Hospital for two breast cancer operations so it has been a hectic time running to & from Doctors/Hospitals, in addition my computer went on the blink just before Christmas so I was unable to send my best wishes @ the appropriate time.
However once again I would like to wish all ex & present seafarers a Very Happy & Healthy New Year.
Best wishes to all,
Kathleen John Aspin (Ormesby-Middlesbrough)
