the Australia Star alright.Did see her in Melb. a few times.late sixties early seventies.Looking at the Blue Star Site, note her S.W.L. lift. was 300 tons.though it lifted up to 340,in trials at Hamburg. see also that she was charteed 1972 to Tne Norwegians as the Gulf of Concordia thence some years later to the Panama flag. The site is well worth looking at ,with some great Photos and Info. See also she needed four winches operating.A while after '72 the American Bear L.A.S.H.boats put in an appearance.I was privileged to be picked up a few times as Crane driver to work them. They had a single Crane to lift the 400 tonnes capacity ,Barges. The idea being ,they would be dropped at the stern ,towed round to suitable Berths. The ship would then carry on to Sydney and Brisbane.back to Sydney ,load the discharged and re-loaded Barges ,same at Melb. Back across to Auckland ,then to the States. The concept seemed good at the time, but sadly it was not a success, and believe the U.S.Company later went in to liquidation.
