Right on the money mate, Fleming gear was the name. Most liners had steel lifeboats but the Fleming gear could be dangerous. we were doing a lifeboat drill in Capetown harbour when one of the lads got his leg caught between the steel rod and the thwarts. Took avery big chunk of muscle out of his leg, nasty. happy daze john in oz
