Ian,

The Crew Agreement for SALTWICK official number 161014 should be held at the National Archives, Kew in piece details BT 381/2462 at this link here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATID=8209172&CATLN=6&Highlight=%2C161014&accessmethod=0
If you wish to get a copy of the file you need to copy and paste the link above into your browser then click "Request this" then take the Digital Express option and follow instructions. You do need to be specific and ask for "The LAST crew agreement for SALTWICK official number 161014".
The cost for the file is £8.50 sent to your email address (24 hour service) on a no find no fee basis.

This crew agreement should confirm that he was aboard and also his previous ship if he had one. Unfortunately it wont help you for his ships post October 1943.
Regards
Hugh
