For my part the book is not a story it,s about the life we led in those days , i have never met Dave but i have to say for me it brought back a lot of memories of those golden days and if it was not for the likes of the Dave Share,s of this world who bothered to keep a diary a lot of my memories would be buried in the past , as far as the unions go i spent a short time on the Aussie and Kiwi coast,s working for union steam i am far from an expert on the union,s out there but whatever, i see nothing wrong with waiting for fresh milk to come aboard before we sailed .
Got myself thinking now why did i not bother to carry a notebook and pencil then i would remember the name of my cabin mate on the old union ship Kumalla running from Melbourne to Tasmania with apples in 1969 he had jumped a norweigian sailng ship in Aussie in 1924 what a waste of memories for me that is in fact if memory serves he could not leave the Kumalla because if he did he would have had to have had a medical which i do remember him telling me he would most certainly fail and then that would have ment the end of his life at sea so wherever that old fella ended up i wish him well and it,s only books that will keep those memories fresh in our minds i wish you all well mates Dave R 692044
