I have a copy of the Boys Own Paper of May 1951 (price one shilling) which contains a treasure-trove of ads and articles such as Brylcream (with a photo of Denis Compton-not a hair out of place), the Webley Air pistol,The Army Apprenticeship Schools, Radio Officer Training Colleges at Clapham, the Wireless College at Colwyn Bay, the London Telegraph College, Earls Court (where I trained), the Merchant Navy School of Navigation at Southampton, the BSA Golden Wings dropped handlebar bicycle (WOW), How to build a two-seater canoe with sails, a detailed article on the Festival of Britain (non-PC!), How to hold down your first job, a story entitled ‘Biggles works it out‘, a Mars bar ad including Sammy Shuteye, BSA Cadet major air rifle, a RAF ad. for apprenticeship to service such airplanes as the Gloster Meteor, stamps for approval, and so many more from those wonderful long-ago days. Makes me feel quite ‘misty’ sometimes when I think about them.
Cheers all
tony
