Hi Syd,
looks like your enquiry about NZ has resulted in all the Aussies extolling the virtues of pensioner benefits in that fine land to tempt you over there.
Well Syd, go there if you must but you risk freezing your nuts off in Tassie, broiling your nuts of in Melbourne,
getting your nuts blown off in a tropical cyclone in the north, getting your nuts bitten off by a Great White in Queensland and having to drink your re-cycled urine in Sydney.
However if you settle in Auckland NZ you will have all the fresh water you can drink, a 3/4 hr drive from downtown Auckland will get you to one of the wild west coast surf beaches, a 20min drive will get you to to some of the best bushwalks in the world, a 4 hour drive will get you to the Central Plateau with great skiing and world famous alpine trekking, a 1&1/2 flight will take you to Queenstown, undoubtedly, indisputably, the most beautiful place on the planet.
Admittedly, you may feel the earth move now and again, and it won't always be sex, but it just adds to the excitement, and we are losing a fair chunk of the population to Aus every year, but as ex PM Rob Muldoon said, that just lowers the IQ of Australia and raises the IQ of NZ.
But Syd if the main purpose of re-locating 12000 miles is to see how far you can travel on a $2 bus ticket and gain some pensioner benefits then Aus is the place for you, along with all the other wrinklies on the Gold Coast spending their days playing bowls and in bed by 7.
If you choose to do that then you may as well climb into the pine box and I'll come across and nail down the lid for you.
Or you can choose to settle in a truly unique country among truly unique people(not me, I'm a Pom)and have the most amazing time of your life.
Your decision Syd
Regards Phil
