Hello
If you type 'Lloyds Medal for Bravery at Sea' into Google you will get the BBC WW2 People's War and there is an alphabetical list of the recipients of the medal and the name of the ship and the date. It was only awarded to Merchant Seamen and in total 541 were awarded during WW2. The actual medal should have the date inscribed on it. My father, Capt Bill Hartley was awarded this medal for his bravery on the Convoy PQ18 Sept 42 and he thought much more of that than his DSC ! The citation was published in the relevant Lloyds Shipping News at the time, so I'm not sure how you would get a copy now - unless you email the gentleman on the BBC site - he obviously had access to the awards. I would be interested to know how you get on as I have a query about a friend of my Dad's . Regards Bren Shackleton PS You were not 'allowed' to wear the Lloyds Medal as it was not issued by the Crown...!
