Bananas are one of the highest sugar fruits there are. You really picked a bad example. If you are trying to keep your carbs under 20 the best way to do that is to eat salads, and veggys. If you want to eat fruit, you really should wait until after induction when you can eat higher amounts of carbs. Why? Because you need the vitamins and fiber you can get from vegetables more than you need the sugars from fruits at that low of a level.

But to answer your question if you really must eat fruit, go for berries which are lower in sugar. And yes you can eat anything as long as you keep your carb level under 20. But you would be better off eating high fiber green veggys than fruit or other things that are high in sugar.

Protein shakes? To replace meals? I don't think it is a good idea if you are still at the 20 gram level. I think you should have real food. But it is up to you on that one. If you are eating 6 meals a day, protein shakes for one of the meals wouldn't be bad, but if you are eating only 3, then then I think you would be missing too much that you should have.

A good desert that doesn't require an oven? cream shakes. put a cup of water in a blender, add unsweetened cocoa powder, some splenda and a bunch of ice. Blend until slushy, add some cream and blend a few seconds more. Drink like a milkshake.
