Hi all, I did my uppper body workout this morning. It was more difficult than my lower body workout was yesterday. I'm going to have to tweak that one so that it really feels like a more solid workout.

Today's session just takes too long. He says it is supposed to take 46 minutes. I don't see how that is. When I do the excercises as fast as I can, without the one minute rest between I still can't get through in 46 minutes. He has you do 12 reps of one weight, wait a minute, do 10 reps of a higher weight, wait another minute, 8 reps, 1 min, 6 reps, 1 min, 12 reps, no wait, 12 reps, and then wait 2 minutes. And he has you repeat that pattern on 5 different excercises.

Well I can't figure it out, but I can't do that many that fast, and I wind up running out of time before I have to go to work. Last ubwo, I skipped biceps, planning to do them later. Didn't get to it. Today I skipped the chest part of the workout planning to do it tonight. (Hope I won't skip it).

It is fun though. I went to work today feeling the muscles in my triceps sort of aching, not hurting in a bad way, more in a good way like I had just woken them up after a long sleep. The backs of my legs from yesterday too had that same feeling. It feels good. I LOVE the way my body feels when I am growing stronger. It is just a fantastic wonderful thing.

It probably sounds crazy, but I find myself wanting to flex those muscles, just to feel them stretch. It reminds me of when I was young and trying out belly dance excercises for the first time. My back felt so limber I remember being in a store and having to restrain myself from doing some of the movements (people look at you funny). They felt so good, I just wanted to feel that stretchy movement again.

When I see little kids, (particularly little boys) and how they just can't seem to stay still, they are bouncing off the walls, and climbing on things and moving their muscles around in all sorts of ways, it makes me think that we as adults have given up a big part of what is natural to us. Movement and using the muscles in our bodies is very natural, and I think the act of growing up and having our mothers and fathers tell us to "be still", makes me think that we had to LEARN to not move so much. That the reason we did it was to accomodate adults who couldn't handle watching us have so much fun (and maybe break things in stores etc).

But the price we pay for not enjoying our body's range of motion is stiff necks, sore backs, stress headaches etc.

I suggest everyone find some way to celebrate the motion of their own body. It is a joyful thing to move and be flexible and limber. Enjoy it.
