Subject: I've never read that you could subtract sugar alcohols, but that you can subtract fiber. In the case of plain yogurt I read that it doesn't contain as many carbs as it says because the way they measure food content is to add up the protein and fat and assume what is left is carbs. In the case of yogurt it isn't all carbs, but "culture".
In reply to: katarina 's message, "sugar alcohols" on 04:21:50 08/12/02 Mon

Personally I'm not sure I believe that, there are only really three macronutrients to my knowledge, fat, protein and carbs.

However yogurt is good for you for other reasons. So if you like it it might be good to just up your carb intake for the day a little to consume it. I wouldn't eat the sweetened fruity kind though. Too much sugar.

  • I have read that sugar alcohols do not count in the carbs that affect your blood sugar. In fact, isn't Splenda made from sugar alcohols? I could be wrong on that one -- not sure. Anyway, I have heard some people say that even though they aren't supposed to be affected by sugar alcohols, they are. (NT) -- Kel, 07:45:28 08/12/02 Mon
  • I don't think Splenda is sugar alchohols. Malitol and things like that are. I believe Splenda is an "invert sugar" whatever that means. It is sugar that has been chemically changed. Hmmm, now you've got me wondering. Maybe it is? (NT) -- Sherry, 07:51:01 08/12/02 Mon
  • I cant use Splenda. It causes problems for me. I was doing well on Atkins, drinking one can of diet caffiene free cola per day. Switched to Diet Rite for a week and started gaining weight. Went back to DCF coke and started losing again (NT) -- Joe, 11:19:25 08/12/02 Mon
