Well let's see. Usually when you lose this fast a lot of it is water and the biggest danger is becoming too dehydrated. As Kel said a lot could be muscle, but if you are consuming lots of protein and doing weight training you should be able to prevent most muscle loss. I think it is just the nature of this diet that you lose a LOT of fat at the beginning.

I myself lost about 30 pounds in the first two months. It does slow down by the way. When it slows down it may be more difficult to keep yourself motivated. You need to make sure you are eating enough calories right now so that you don't put yourself into starvation mode and make it impossible to lose later.

In my situation I lost about 50 pounds in the first 8 months, and then I haven't lost much in the nearly 2 years since then, only at max 9 pounds. (but have continued to lose inches).

I've never had a problem with my skin refusing to be elastic enough to shrink back to where it belongs, but I have heard of this.

I really don't think you have anything to worry about, just enjoy it while it lasts and be aware that it can't last indefinitely. Your body has a natural resistance to losing too much weight too fast, and it may rebel (as mine has seemed to) and make it very hard later to continue losing.

But you can be more stubborn than your body, and can keep on losing fat and gaining muscle even if the pounds no longer melt away like they are doing at present.

Make sure you drink plenty of water and take your vitamins and minerals. Keep on eating plenty of protein and working out, and you should be fine.

  • I agree with Kel that you shouldn't lose to fast, but if you have a lot of weight to lose like I did it just started slipping off once I was eating the right things. My doctor was thrilled with 89 lbs in 6 months and so was my body. I think as long as you are feeling good and have energy you are doing ok, just be ready for it to one day slow down to the normal 1-2 lbs a week rate. After the rush of pounds it seems like a snails pace, but it's still working. :) (NT) -- Shara, 12:39:55 08/19/02 Mon
